Hi C.,
I recently tried a Woolite product - Pet Oxygen...it gets rid of stain, smells, the worst-pet deposits! I am very happy with it and you might want to try it - works great.

Hi all - I could use your advice on how to get throw-up smell out of car upholstery and carpets. I have leather seats and normal car carpet. I cleaned up with soap and water and Folex carpet cleaner but I can't get the smell to go away. Help!
Hi Everyone! Thanks for all the advice - there are some great product referrals in there. I have used baking soda in the past but thought it would be too messy for the car - ended up going to our local petstore and buying some enzyme cleaner that they recommended that also has a mild detergent in it. I applied it full-strength and then blotted the excess. I also used some to wipe down the leather and the door and left the windows open overnight. It seems to have worked as the bad smell is gone. There is a mile vinegar smell after the first day but it is dissipating quickly
Thanks again for being such a great resource!

My brother who works in collision repair recommends soaking the carpet in "dissolve it" then scrub with water and dab it dry, or vacuum it dry - leave the windows down to help air things out.
Good Luck,
Linda
If you can still smell it, it's not completely clean. There's still throw up in the car. The boiling water suggestion is a good one. And before I read some other posts, I was going to say exactly what the one before said: Kids 'n Pets and Febreeze. Thoroughly clean it with the Kids 'n Pets, then when it's dry, spray with some anti-bacterial Febreeze. Good luck. That sounds gross.
"Natures Miracle" for pet stains is THE BEST!!!!! It'll get out ANY organic stains, even old ones. It gets rid of the smell too because it uses special non-toxic enzymes to completely break down the stain. You can get it at many pet stores and online, I keep some on hand where ever I go, it's easy and it gets it ALL out.
There is a product called Neutroleum Alpha that can get any smell out of anything. I have used it on urine (both pet and toddler), feces, and vomit. You can only order it from the Pocatello Supply Depot. It's non-toxic and a little goes a long way. The information is

Hi C.
Try the stuff made to clean up after pets, smells good, works great! Good luck!
I lost count of how many times our son has puked in our car. The best way that I know is Febreeze. Spray it all over you can get the antimicrobial kind that gets the germs out as well. This is what worked for us.
Wipe your seats down with a water/vinegar mixture.
Carpets too. The vinegar will absorb the smell.
Also, you can buy products at the store to remove
urine smell in carpets. But it may work on the
vomit too. ????
Dust a little powdered woolite into the carpet after scrubbing....it will make it smell better.
Go on line to the search engine & ask for
remedies.
Good luck.
How about sprinkling it with baking soda daily, vacuum the next day and reapply. And a car air freshener while it's working. My best luck with removing throw-up smell from indoor carpets is with citrus smelling carpet cleaner--the smell is immediately gone. The baking soda might work while you locate some, though!
I know this seems counter-intuitive, but vinegar is the best get-rid-of-smell thing around, and it usually doesn't hurt fabric. I say usually because it is used to SET dye (see Easter eggs). So, if the color is good, I would use a cup of vinegar (or spray vinegar) on it, and the hottest water your carpet/fabric can stand, and do a hot-water-vinegar rinse. You can follow up with Febreze if you want. You should NOT have any residue using vinegar. In fact, vinegar is used by steam cleaning carpets to get rid of bubbles left from old soap.
Hope that helps!
We like "Kids n' Pets" It comes in a large blue and yellow bottle with a pop up top. It's about $5 at WalMart. My husband just used it a few weeks ago on diarhea all over our carpet and it took out the stain and the smell when followed up with some antibacterial citrus Fabreeze. Good luck!
I am not sure about the leather seats. For the carpet, wipe with a rag of water as hot as you can stand and then put a thick layer of baking soda down. Let it stay there for a couple days and then vaccum it out. I have done this before, the baking soda might change colors. Hope this helps!
Borax. It's great for the pee smell in matresses too. I just came across this after reading about it so many times in magazines etc. I found it on the laundry aisle at Smith's. It wasn't too expensive either. My daughter had an accident the other night in her bed where her diaper leaked the borax got rid of the smell. (YAY) I also used it to get rid of a smell from dog vomit that was lingering and I also just used it to clean my washer--it's so pretty inside now it suprised me!
I have 2 dogs and 2 boys. The best stuff I have found for any bad stain or smell is something called "Nature's Miracle". It is a liquid with an active enzyme and you can find it at PetSmart or probably any other pet store. It is in a white container with red lettering. It has worked on many things for our house. Good luck
Hi C., I have 3 little boys so I know all about this. I had to clean them with a steam cleaner but Oust spray works well too. Try that and use the carpet air freshner that you sprinkle on. Good luck!

A little water mixed with soda is a miracle cleaner and deodorizer! mix about 1/2 cup water with 3/4 teaspoons of soda, rub over the area and let it dry. If there is any residue, just rub it off. Then, if there is any scent left, just spray it with All fabric refresher. It works better than Febreze,in my opinion.

Oxyclean, it takes out smell great! We've used it for yrs. and it is safe.
The best way I have discovered is to put baking soda on top and let it set a while. I had one really strong odor in my furniture and I just used a wet rag on top of the soda and scrubbed. Let dry and vacuum. Good Luck!
VODKA. I'm serious. I've used it to clean pee accidents on my couch, car, carpet, and a 10hour-old wet stinky stain on my mattress. Just pour it on, spread it around with your hand or whatever before it soaks in, and let it dry. It disinfects and totally evaporates leaving no odor or stain. I've never used it on leather, so you might want to try it on a hidden spot to make sure it won't stain. I got this idea from a friend that worked in the fashion industry says that between shows they sprayed vodka on the clothes the models wore because there wasn't time to dry clean them! I've never used it for vomit, but another friend of mine uses it for pet vomit on her carpet all the time.
Use baking soda! Sprinkle on and vacuum up or put some in a small amount of water and sponge it up!
Kids 'n' Pets available at Walmart. Does the trick every single time!
I have good luck with baking soda.
Use Oxyclean, the powder you would get for laundry mixed with a little warm water, rub in, let sit for 10 min. wipe off, may use some clean water, and vacuum when dry. You will not smell any throw up and also no cover up smell from what you used to clean it with. My dog had liquid diahrea in my husbands mercedes, my son and I thought we were going to throw up on the way home it was so bad. I did the oxyclean and my husband has never known, that was years ago and he still has the merecedes.
This works great in the house and in the laundry to get out urine or poop odors and again along with completely getting rid of the smell it doesn't leave a secondary smell of cleaner.
Good luck,
S. M.
C.,
I just had this problem except it was all over my living room carpet. The best thing I found and actually my mom told me about it, is to dump baking soda on the area where the throw up is. It works wonders. You need to let it sit for a few hours if now over night. Also, you can put some vanilla in a lid or small glass with a cotton ball and leave it in the front of your car. The cotton ball and vanilla help with the odor.

There's a product you can buy at most pet stores called Nature's Miracle. As far as I understand it's an enzyme cleaner which means it breaks down natural organic materials. I have four kids and have had my share of cleaning up throw-up and potty accidents. This stuff seems to work the best. Especially over time. It seems like if you soak it in well, it continues to work over several weeks as it evaporates. Make sure you leave your car windows down for a couple of days if you can. Hope it works for you as well as it did for me.
Put baking soda on the carpet and leave it there for a day, then vacuum it up. It should help. I don't know about the leather seats.
You can also try 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide mixed with 1 tbsp of baking soda.
I have a little boy who threw up daily for almost a year. Believe me, I tried EVERYTHING. Nothing truly worked until I learned this trick from another mom who had a daughter who was a puker like my son. She learned it from her professional carpet cleaner, who took pity on her after coming out so many times and taking her money.
Use BOILING water (it has to be boiling, not just hot) and completely saturate the area. Blot up as much as you can with a white towel (so you can see when all the barf is gone) and repeat until the towel stays clean. Apparently the boiling water kills the germs that cause the smell, and also releases the particles that create the stain that usually sticks around long afterwards. I'm not sure about on leather, but on carpet this is the only thing I've found to really work.
try Nature's Miracle. It is a pet product--you can get it at Petsmart. It is actually an enzyme that eats the protiens in urine and feces, and I bet vomit, too. Works great on human accidents.
A friend once told me about vinegar. I have tried it at home and it works great. You do get a vinegar smell for a while but if you can leave your windows open that should help to get rid of that smell. If you have a carpet cleaner I would put straight vinegar on the area of the accident and let it set for about 10 minutes or so and then soak it up with your cleaner. Make sure to clean your cleaner thouroughly or it will have a throw-up smell. Hope this helps.
Working for a carpet cleaning and restoration company, The best thing is to take it into a company, not really Super Sonic or a car wash place. With carpets they are specials ways and chemicals to relax and get rid of odors. Using store bought products, or Fabreeze, or anything else kind of disguises the smell, and or makes it worse plus adding a stain to it. Throw up has acid in it, and has a high concentrate of it. if you are still smelling a smell, take it into a professional carpet cleaning center. Good Luck
Try Fabreeze (sp?).
In the past I have had good success with liquid laundry detergent for getting smells out of the car.
Make a past out of baking soda. Scrub as well as you can and then vacuum up :)
Hi, C.!
We use a product called Solu-Mel which is made by Melaleuca (see www.saferforyourhome.com for more details). It gets out any (and I do mean ANY) scent out of anything! Our dog doesn't even hone in on the spot in the carpet anymore if my 3 yr old has an accident or my 8 month old spits up on the carpet. It can also take permanent marker off of anything. It also works on laundry (esp grass stains with my 2 boys). We really like it because it is non-toxic and eco friendly. There are a lot of great ideas below, though! Good luck with it!
The best thing I have found for getting out smells is Febreeze.
Here's a product that is non-toxic and earth friendly and it's 100% guaranteed or your money back.

Febreeze pet odor illiminator worked for me. Good luck!
lysol, bleach, or comet
In Boulder there's a place called the Puddle, they might be able to 'detail' your car. Give them a call...
Good luck
