Urinary Urgency

My 5-year-old Daughter has been fighting with the ongoing sense of urgency for about a week and a half now. She seems to be fine during the day while at 1/2 day K. but in the evening and all day during the weekends she is running to the bathroom 3 times the normal amount. Something comes out each time but not a large volume. I think it is a mild UTI. She does not have a fever. She worries about everything all the time and can make herself physically ill just by thinking about for too long. Do you have any ideas on how to get her past this and at what point do I start taking her to doctors?

What can I do next?

I believe all you need to do is to have her urine tested to see if there are white blood cells which indicate a UTI. They will quickly analyze it right there. Call your ped and ask if you can bring a urine sample from home or what they recommend you do. The sooner the better. As I was told, you can have a million UTIs but O. infection that gets to the kidney can be very bad. The sooner you get it taken care of, the better. If it turns out to be nothing--better safe than sorry. Good luck!

Hi R.,

Have your pediatrician check her urine for an infection.

or anything else that may be a source of her problem.

Good luck. Hope this helps. D.

Get her urine dipped and sent off to see exactly what type of UTI she has. If a UTI is not detected, then they need to look at other things like underdeveloped ureters which is nothing to worry about.

I would take her now to get the ped's opinion. If it is an infection, it is better to have it taken care of sooner rather than later. Good luck!
