This happened to my son. I wanted to wait to see if the testicle would descend on its own--some do. His didn't--I think the research I read at the time (2 years ago) said that, if it didn't descend by somewhere around 6 months, it was unlikely to descend. I believe the increase in cancer comes if you leave it longer than around 9 months. We had the surgery after consulting with a pediatric urologist--my son was between 7 and 8 months old. I was really nervous, but felt better doing it then rather than any earlier. The surgery was fast and uncomplicated, and they kept us informed throughout as to how the surgery was going, and we were able to go into recovery with him and wait for him to wake up. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. Good luck!

Make sure you go to a baby urologist... or child urologist... ask your pediatrician who they recommend.. don't go to a reg. dr.. make sure it's a pediatric.. and also when he needs to be put to sleep.. use a pediatric dr. too. find out what the urologist says.. Dr. Ring in Westfield is great.. my son had surgery with him recently.. and he is great with kids.. good luck

Hello,

My son also had an undescended testicle when he was born. It descended fine on it's own by the time he was a year. I can't remember at what point in the first year that it happened. Our doctor suggested waiting to see because it usually resolves on it's own. You could get one more opinion. Do you trust both doctors? Are they very highly recommended?

Good luck,

K. (mom to Charlie, 3 years old)

Dont take my word for it, but you might want a second physician opinion. My son had the same thing and his pediatrician said that they sometimes resolve on their own, so we waited. He had the surgery when he was 3 and is 11 now and perfectly fine. Best of luck!

The couple of babies that I know this happened to including my nephew had surgery around 4-6 weeks. However,
maybe things have changed over the years. It is amazing
how well real little ones do after surgery. Usually it
is a same day surgery or a brief overnight. Good luck.

This happened to a couple of people I know. One of them actually was in elementary school before they addressed it. Are you seeing specialists for this? Maybe you should go for one more opinion, but to me, one month sounds too soon unless there are some kind of complications. Is your son cranky? Appearing to be in pain? I think a 3rd opinion is going to be the only way you'll have peace of mind.

Hi, H., I would definitely wait. Here is a link that I googled andyou can do the same. There is no rush. There are too many other things to worry about now than to add additional worries like having a major surgery. Here is the link and follow your instincts-you must be an advocate for what is best for your baby through doing your own research:
