My son is uncircumcised. We just haven't had the money to get him circumcised. He's almost two and he's starting to get a red rash on the tip. My husband says we need to start cleaning it but he doesn't remember how. He was circumcised when he was nine. How do you clean it? I need something like step by step instructions. He doesn't have a regular doctor because the only one that takes our insurance is an hour away by car and we don't have a car at the moment.
thanks in advanced.

So What Happened?

Thanks for your answers. His dad had both medical and his family had religious reasons. His family wants him to be circumcised because of their Jewish. Also it is cleaner. That's why i will when i can.

My son is not cir'd and the doctor told us NOT to gently pull the skin back as other's have suggested. You run the risk of hurting him, causing tears, etc. Call your doctor and talk to a nurse. What I would do is let him run around without a diaper and let the area air out. Then just wash it like normal and put a bit of vasoline on it so it doesn't stick to his diaper. It should clear up in no time.
p.s. there is no medical need to get him cir'd.

Just call his doctor's office and talk to the nurse!

Typically that's just a little bit of "diaper rash". Neosporin usually takes care of it.

A nurse or even YOUR doctor or nurse practitioner should be able to tell you proper cleaning techniques. If he's still wearing diapers or pull ups, he may just have a diaper rash or yeast infection. You can also google, "step by step instructions for cleaning uncircumcised babies."

One word of caution -unless it becomes medically necessary, I wouldn't have him circumcised at this late date! Both of my boys are circumcised, and unlike many on this board, I'm not rabidly pro or con. We decided it was right for our boys, but it doesn't matter to me if anyone else circumcises. I just wouldn't do it when they would have a memory of it though. I know our doctor used lidocaine on both of ours and they never acted like they felt anything or were bothered, but as boys grow, things change and they have a lot of sensitivity in their penises. Find out if there's any special cleaning thing you should do, and leave it.

Hello, I decided before my son was born to not have him circumsized. His pediatrician has said it is usually done for personal or religious reasons. I had neither. I decided to keep him exactly like his father. At the age when he started potty training, was also when he had his hands on it more often, so he developed a little infection on the tip. This is likely to happen whether he is circumsized or not. We did take him to his pediatrician and she advised us to pull the skin back and wash with a mild soap and water. After his bath he advised us to use neosporin to avoid any more irritation. It cleared it up within 2 days. Good luck to you.
