UGH!!! Hair Dye on My Bathroom Vanity Cabinet :(

My daughter dyed her almost black hair a darker black YESTERDAY afternoon and tonite my son noticed a huge black streak down the bottom of the front of my beautiful maple colored wood vanity cabinet. I hadn't been in there since yesterday & it was such a crazy day...I had to drive her to work immediately after she finished her hair. So obviously it has been on there for more than 24 hours. Anyone have anything that they have used to successfully remove dye in a situation like this?? Based on internet searches, I have tried straight rubbing alchohol, hydrogen pyroxide, a paste of vinegar and baking soda...so far it's not budging. I could just cry! Obviously, there will be no more home hair dyeing in this house! Any ideas on getting it out would be appreciated. After I remove the last application of vinegar & baking soda, I was planning on trying Goof Off and then mineral spirits, but I am afraid those may remove the finish...

So What Happened?

Well, I got almost all the black off, (which was miraculous considering this was a 1" wide streak about 8" long) using the Goof Off. The cabinet finish, unfortunately also came off leaving it lighter colored than the rest of the cabinet. It looks 200x better than it did before, but the cabinet is pretty much ruined. We may be able to lightly sand it and try to match the finish. I learned a valuable lesson...when your teenager says she is going to dye her hair in your bathroom, SAY NO!!!!!

Maybe try a magic eraser. Test it in a small hidden area first if your cabinet is dark.

If all else fails and your cabinet is real wood you can sand it down and refinish it. A pain in the butt ... but an option.

I would suggest 2 things go to the beauty store and they sell a product to remove hair dye from the skin and I have used it on my tile and it worked but it was immediately used. Or maybe goto home depot and ask them what they suggest. Good luck

Whoops! I was going to suggest Comet, which works for everything, but I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to use it on wood. Check the can...or do a test spot on the inside of the cabinet...because Comet works best for removing tough to remove surface stains. Wet the surface, sprinkle liberally, let it soak in for 15 minutes, and scrub...but like I said, I'm really not sure you can use it on wood.

A friend of mine swears by dishwasher detergent for the inside of her sink, if it ever happen to her. Is it wood? If so I would do a test patch first.
