Hi All,

My daughter needs a lot of help with math, she is currently in 4th Grade. Are any of you aware of any good/low cost tutoring programs?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Two suggestions to add:

There is a math tutor I see working at the Lomita library that is very good; I don't know who he is but he is very good with kids that are really struggling.

I also tutor some (as well as teach guitar lessons). I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering, work in that industry in El Segundo and live in Lomita. I have two kids now in H.S. doing real well, and I could probably help your daughter. If you are interested, call me at ###-###-####...

PS. I'll understand if you pick Kimberly, she sounds very qualified. : )

I am a science and math teacher with my BS in Marine Biology, minor in chemistry. I taught middle school for 8 years and high school for 3 years. I am currently at home on FMLA for the rest of the school year. My sister lives in PV, and she would be happy to watch my son while I tutor your daughter. If you are interested, feel free to send me an email, ____@____.com

Good luck, sorry I don't have any advice other than don't waste your money with Sylvan! They sounded like it was so great, and we signed our lives away, and are still paying for it 1 1/2 years later. Their guarantee was that they would bring his grade up one letter grade. Well, they did, that semester only. He is still struggling, now in 7th grade, and still doesn't "get it". I wish I had never started with them. Or maybe if I had gone when he went, and watched what was going on. I think that if he didn't seem to care, that the teacher at that table wouldn't push him but concentrated on other students. I'm quite angry over this experience, and it kills us to write that hefty check each month for absolutely no help at all. Sorry to vent, but don't waste your time. Maybe a college student that loves math? Good luck to you all.

I have someone who lives in Long Beach and was a math teacher at Los Alamitos High until she went to Thailand for three years on a mission. She is GREAT! and just got back. Let me know if you want her info and she, of course, relates very well to kids. My 7th grader loves her.
