I need to find a math tutor for my 6th grader in Mansfield, just something a few days a week after school to help him keep his head above water. There is a Huntington on Debbie near my house, but I don't know anything about it. We went through the "testing" and hard sell at Sylvan and it was a negative experience. Are these big chains my only options? There is a Mathnasium in Arlington but it's not very convenient to where I live.

K.,
I wanted to tell you about a couple of options to consider. I was a 6th Grade math teacher in Mansfield at Icenhower Intermediate before staying home with my kids. I know they offer after school tutoring a couple of days a week. I used to do this after school. It's free for the students but it may not be geared directly for your son's needs. Also, if you're interested, I'd be happy to talk to you about tutoring your son afterschool and/or weekends too. Just email me if you have any other questions. Good luck! ____@____.com
Hi K..
I know you've already gotten a bunch of responses, but I thought I'd also let you know that I am a tutor as well. I live in S. Arlington (near 287 & Sublett) and I tutor in my home. My rates are really reasonable. I am certified to teach Math 7-12, but I have tutored from grade 3 up to College Algebra. If you're interested you can just contact me through Mamasource.
Good luck with your son and I hope you find a good fit for your family!
Hi K.,
I am a former 7th grade math teacher (currently a stay at home mom) and would consider tutoring your son. I actually just emailed some of the middle school math teachers in Mansfield asking them to give my information to parents seeking tutors. Anyways, if you want to contact me regarding details I would love to speak with you. This is my first year of staying home and while I love being with my kids, I miss working with students as well. My email is ____@____.com to hear from you soon!
Hi, I am a certified teacher. I taught 5th grade before becoming a sahm. I have a tutoring business, Accelerate Academic Services. I am also running a special right now for new clients in the month of February. Check out my website at www.acceleratekids.com. My contact info is there as well as info. about me. I have references available. If you go to the business page on Mamasource and click on the Education link on the left, you will find 2 reviews for my business. I don't use contracts and you pay as you go. Many tutoring centers require contracts and prepayment. We can meet in my home or yours. I hope to hear from you! A.
There is Knowledge Guides in South Arlington. They can have tutors come to your home. Their number is ###-###-####, and you can visit them on the web at www.knowledgeguides.net We use a tutor from there are have been very happy.
Hi there,
We have had great success in checking with our kids friends older siblings.......good luck. Typically a kid a couple of years older would be able to help.
The Arlington school district keeps a list of available tutors who can be hired to help a child. I expect that Mansfield does as well. If not, please e-mail me and I'll get names from the Arlington list for you. In my experience, one on one tutoring at home or at the tutor's home is far more beneficial than chain tutoring. You could also contact a math teacher at your closest high school and ask for a student (hs) who might be interested. It would be inexpensive and probably more than enough for a 12 year old.
