I have two 20# turkeys that have been in my deep freezer for a year now. I do not have time to cook them (i have to work) is it ok to donate them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank You!

My coworker contacted her church and put the word out...you would not believe the responses. On "poor" person emailed me using his blackberry, and another "single poor mom" used her android phone!!! Those phones are between $200-$400 dollars-WOW!

I contacted an area food bank, and they will gladly take them. They said that they received outdated frozen turkeys all the time from area stores; they are still good frozen!!

If they are properly wrapped, they should be okay. I read an article once about a woman who buys 12 turkeys when they go on clearance after Thanksgiving. She uses 1 for Xmas then 1 a month to stretch her food budget (she gets very creative using the meat) and then the last one is for Thanksgiving the following year. People asked if they were freezer burned and she said no! I would see if someone would accept them as a donation!

If you donate them, I would make sure they know that they are a year old and how they were stored. I would be hesitant to use a year old turkey. I think you have the right idea in wanting to donate them though.

I had this problem a couple of years ago. My husband gets a turkey every year from work and while I love turkey, I have only cooked one once. So I had a few frozen turkeys. Made some calles to local charitys and they would not take them if they were too old. I have heard you can keep a frozen turkey for 5 years. So I would check the expiration dates to make sure they are current. I can see the point of someone not wanting an older food product even though I wouldn't have a problem with it knowing that it has been frozen.
