Tummy Tuck and Implants

i have decided to have plastic surgery in a few months and would like to ask others who have had it done what to expect? What they would liked to have known before they had their surgeries. I am having mentor silicon gel implants placed on top, not under, the muscle with a lift. I am also going to have a tummy tuck, where NO muscle will be cut. Only the fat and skin I can't get rid of on top of the muscle will be taken.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the responses. I copied all of you advice and am going to take it to my Dr. on my pre op att. I set my date for two months from now and am nervous and excited. My husband has been telling me to go bigger just in case, but I figured he's a man. So, he thanks all of you for telling me about the shrink factor.

I got the tuck and implants several months ago. My Dr. did a great job! I am sooooooo thrilled I had it done. 3 inches of skin removed from my tummy revealed the muscle under it. It feels so nice not to have to lift my jeans over a nasty tummy. It's also nice to see boobs looking at me again instead of pointing to the floor.

Thanks you all so much , J.

Hi J.,

I have to agree with Samantha S. I had breast implants 2 years ago and my only regret is that I wish I had gone at least one size bigger! All the responses I have read talk about silicon implants but I went with saline filled and under the muscle. I was too nervous to use the silicone. I can tell you that I am very happy with the saline and they feel & look great. I wish you the best of luck! you are going to love them! My next project is a tummy tuck :) hope all goes well!

A little about me: I am a 35 year old working mother to 15 year old son and 6 year old daughter, married to my high school sweetheart

J.,
I was watching that show called The Doctors the other day, and they said that the implants placed on top of the muscle sag after a while just like regular breasts...the skin just stretches (as you know from having two kids). They also said that scar tissue builds up around the implant which is more visible when they are over the muscle. You have seen the women with the hard looking implants or knots around the implant-- that is scar tissue. They have to take that out after a while to make it look better. I would check with another doctor to see the option of under the muscle.

Good luck!

I had implant surgery in May and am glad I did. The recovery took a while. Go bigger- they shrink alot. I would go under the muscle for alot of reasons. I chose silicone but I felt that that was right for me. I had one doctor tell me that saline tend to ripple more which could show lumps & bumps on the outside. Good Luck!

I had mine placed under the muscle and a friend of mine had hers placed over the muscle. Mine looks and feel natural, and hers are lumpy and bumpy, and don't feel natural at all. My doctor also told me that you are more likely to go back for a lift a lot sooner if your implants are placed above the muscle, because the muscle actually "supports" the implant if it's under the muscle.
I did need my husband to help me for a few days after. I couldn't life anything. And, I needed help in and out of bed.
Hope that helps.

Another thing they mentioned on The Doctors, is that you are more likely to be able to detect any lumps, if they exist, when the implant is placed below the muscle.

I have my implants under the muscle. The pain was not really bad at all. It just kind of feels like you have too much milk (if you've ever felt that before). I have seen women who get theirs on top and within a year or so, they really start looking bad and everyone can tell you had implants, by the way they look. I would go on top, and no other way.

Also, I wished I had gone bigger! They will srink a lot, even more so after the first year.

So my advise is Under the muscle and go BIG!

Hi J.,
I had implant surgery about 6 months ago and I love it. I had silicone placed under the muscle. When I had my surgery I also had a umbilical hernia repair at the same time. Having two different surgeries was difficult for me. I have three small children and recovery was hard because I wasn't able to pick up any of my kids (1,3 and 6) for 8 weeks. If you do have surgery make sure you have plenty of help. The first week is the worst. I wasn't able to drive for a couple of weeks because the muscle in my chest would hurt when I turned the wheel. If I could change anything about my surgery it would be to go with a bigger implant. Im happy I look and feel natural but I wish I went 1 size bigger. Good luck! The dr I used was awesome also- Dr. Davoudi in Duluth, GA.

Good luck again!!!!!

I have not had either of these procedures but I have considered breast implants for years and here are some things I have learned through my research. First, I used to work for a law firm in the breast implant department. The firm I was at represented over 3000 women with silicon gel implants. I was shocked when they came back on the market. If they do not cause problems, then why did the breast implant companies agree to pay hundreds of thousands of women for the side effects they experienced? Doctors push silicon because they look and feel more real. However, I would really think twice about silicon because these women have complained about everything from fatigue, hair loss, irritable bowel syndrome, joint pain, and the list goes on and on. I am also surprised that to hear that you are going on top of the muscle. The most common problem you see with implants is capsular contractor, which is when you body forms scar tissue around the implant and contracts making your implants appear to feel hard and painful when if fact it is not the implant that is hard it is just some bodies ways of reacting to having a foreign object in their body. It is my understanding that this is more likely to happen if the implant is placed on top of the muscle. Really ask your doctor about this because capsular contactor happens to many woman. Just remember that implants are not forever. You will more than likely need some type of second procedure or more again sometime in your life. I am not trying to deter you from getting them but ask a lot a questions and make sure your doctor has patients that would recommend him or her.
