Trunk or Treat Vs. Trick or Treat

I just moved back to SLC after living in California for 20 yrs. My memories of trick or treating were some of my fondest of childhood. Gee, wonder if it was all the candy???? LOL.. So here is my question. If you are attending a Trunk or Treat are you also going to allow your child to Trick or Treat in an area you feel safe (your neighborhood or friends neighborhood, etc.)? We are essentially "new" to SLC and have not been invited to any Trunk or Treat activities. I have to say I am feeling a bit disapointed that I may not get a bunch of cuties in costumes at my door. My 3 yr old loves to hand out treats and I love seeing the little ones all dressed up. What are your thoughts?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Obviously Halloween has not happened yet. THanks for the info, I had forgotten about the Sunday thing and holidays here is SLC. I heard that the Ward in my neighborhood is doing the Trunk or Treat thing ON Sat. so I was getting a little worried about not getting any little ones...but, I think I will at least get a few which will make me happy. I guess long gone are the days of neighborhoods FILLED with kids and parents Trick of Treating. I remember we couldn't even close our door sometimes because the flood of kids would just come and come and come....none the less, I will be in full Halloween garb and will await the few (hopefully many) kiddos. Thanks so much for your thoughts everyone. I was feeling a little hopeless....but no longer :o)

When our grown children were little, we sometimes did both--depending on ages, interest, weather, etc. There was not always a trunk-or-treating option.

We have only our 11-year-old left to "Halloween" with. We have not heard of or been invited to a trunk or treat this year. I had thought that they might be more prevelent this year due to Halloween falling on Sunday. Our family does not trick-or-treat on Sunday and I kind of expected area churches might want to have an organized non-Sabbath non-Halloween day trick-or-treat activity.

We will likely trick-or-treat on Saturday and the the couple people I've asked about it in my area said that that is kind of usual/expected. (I will probably have candy on hand for those who do show up on Sunday-- and it wouldn't surprise me if some try BOTH days.)

I would check with friends and neighbors in your area/the areas you want to go to and see what they are planning.

Our neighborhood, in Murray, is having a Trunk or Treat at the LDS Church on Clay Park Drive. I doubt that they would notice if someone from outside the neighborhood was there.
You still might get trick or treaters at your door so I would keep a little candy on hand for that.

If you want more information on our Trunk or Treat just contact me and I will give you the information.

You'll get lots of trick or treaters as long as you don't live out in the boonies or up a really long steep driveway. I'd say very few people do a trunk or treat (I've never been to one) as opposed to trick or treating. We go trick or treating with our kids and we've always felt safe and had a blast! We trade off so someone's home giving out candy then the kids have fun giving it out when they get home. By about 9:00 trick or treaters stop coming.

I am taking my kids to trunk or treats and to trick or treats - but they're still young, so I won't keep them out too long. :)

I believe most people who participate in a Trunk or Treat (usually with a church group?) do it on a different night so that the kids can also Trick or Treat in the neighborhood.
This year with Halloween on a Sunday, I think most people in the state will be Trick or Treating on Saturday night. So, depending on where you live and how many kids live on your street, you may get lots of kids at your door Saturday night or just a few. Have fun!

My experience is that kids usually do both, but it may depend on your neighborhood. We usually do both with our kids. The one thing about being in Utah is that most trick or treaters will probably come around on Saturday...it's been that way other places I have lived too. Like the previous poster said, Trunk or Treat activities are not exclusive and I have no doubt that they would be happy to have your kids show up. It's a great way to get to know your neighbors. Shame on your neighbors for forgetting to invite you!!!
