Good morning ladies....
My son has been sick for a few days now with diarrhea. We called the pediatrician this morning and they don't want to see him because he is still eating fine and doesn't have any problem with the poo other then doing it very often. I was suggested to use desitin for his raw broken bottom.....but I have used desitin with no results on my daughter before. So I was thinking about using the triple paste...but it is very expensive. So before I buy I wanted to know if anyone else has used it on broken, red, sore bottoms and if it helped?
Thank you
T.
P.S. he is eating his bottles fine, and again we have contacted his pediatrician.....
I had a few mom suggest Flanders buttox ointment and there isn't a retailer here, but I called my pharmacy and they have one tube in stock and it is a quarter the price of triple paste. So we are going to pick it up and give it a try.....here's hoping it works.
Thanks again to everyone who commented. If the ointment doesn't work, I will try some of the other remedies too.....cornstarch and even the crisco.....thanks again....

I have ever only used Triple paste on my son and he has never had any sort of diaper rash. It is expensive but I think it is well worth it.
Boudreaux's Butt Paste is said to be very very good for diaper rash. It can be purchased at Target, Walmart and Walgreens.
Best of luck to you, it's not fun when our babies hurt.
The answer is BUTT PASTE! It worked every time for my babies, paste it on, the next morning rash is gone. Or if using it as a barrier, no rash! As a reminder, it does stain so make sure you only get it on the diaper area!
It sounds like a wet rash so I would get some Burt's Bees dusting powder. For a wet rash you use powder for a dry rash you use cream. Triple paste works well.
When my daughter gets the "atomic butt" diaper rash as I call it, my doctor has recommended that we use (1) nystatin cream (which is a treatment for yeast infections that the doctor prescribes), followed by (2) aquaphor (or store brand comparable), followed by (3) the desitin formula that contains 40% zinc oxide (or store brand comparable). It is a real pain in the rear to apply, especially if the baby is in pain, but works really well! Also, during bathtime, I bathe her in a bath of baking soda and cornstarch (no bubble bath) and only use dove sensitive skin soap (or store brand comparable).
.
You don't even have to but and expensive paste, I used vaseline for my baby everytime he got a rash and it work just fine. When you bathe your baby dont use soap just wipe with warm cloth in affected area. I also suggest pure corn starch I though it was crazy cause my grandma did it to my first child and I was like yea right. when you change his diaper apply the cornstarch to affected area just like you would baby powder(this even works for heat rash). It works and you won't have to worry about if it will burn the babys skin just as well as vaseline and its cheap
I have never heard of triple paste?
Walgreens has something called Diaper Tex (i think that is the name) It has a sponge applicator and it worked very well.

Hi,
I had no luck with Triple Paste. I don't know if you have Kerr Drug stores in KY, but I would suggest Flanders Buttocks Ointment. They only sell it at Kerr Drugs here in NC, but you may be able to find it somewhere else in your state or ask your pharmacist to order it for you. I have found nothing that works better (and I have tried it all). My son had food allergies, and the raw hurt bottom was a constant nuisance. This seemed to give him instant relief.
I hope he feels better soon!
Crisco! It's a god send. I promise. It has been our miracle cure for rashes. I know it sound strange, I thought so too at first. But it really does work, and that's the most important thing. So, Crisco all vegetable shortening! Good luck.
Hey T.,
Make sure that the raw bottom isn't a yeast infection. If you start to notice that diaper rash creams or medicated pastes aren't working, get either Monistat or Lotrimin AF. One is a yeast infection cream and the other is a jock itch cream, but both will take care of a yeast infection on baby's bottom in a hurry. Anytime my son had diarrhea, he got a yeast infection. I always knew it was yeast b/c the diaper rash creams would not help and my son would scream when I put it on him.
Hi T.. Both of my kids are just getting over diarrhea from taking antibiotics. They had a yeast type rash so I used Lotrimin and Butt Paste. Cleared right up. If it's not a yeast rash though, I would suggest using Vasoline and then putting butt paste right on top of the vaseline after every diaper change. That's what the advice nurse told me to do. They make an OTC diaper rash cream called Butt Paste. It works really well. Also, Flander's Buttocks Ointment works really well. You can get Flanders from any pharmacy. Just ask the pharmacist. The Butt Paste is the same as the Flanders except it has more zinc oxide in it, meaning it is probably a little better. And be careful when using the Butt Paste as it will stain. Hope this helps!
I have found that if you use Aquafor and a little powder it clears it up pretty quick. I have also used Bag Balm (works overnight---for us anyway), it can be found at Wal-Mart in the pet section. It is actually for cow utters, but, a friend of mine that is a nurse said that works. I tried it and it worked. It is in a 10 oz green tin can. It is only about $5-6. I was hesitant at first...but it really works.
The reason for diaper rash cream is just to keep moisture off the skin until it can heal. Vaseline will do the same thing, and you can buy generic. Just put it on kinda thick.
There is also a product called Resinol. You have to ask the pharmacist for it,but I've had great results with it on my daughter.
