My daughter was diagnois with a urinary tract infection. Her peditrician put her on antibiotics. The infection has gone but now when she urinates she begins to cry. It hurts when she use the bathroom. I think she might has a yeast infection. She is only 7 yrs old. Is there any over the counter cream for her or she has to get a prescription from the doctor since she is so young.

What can I do next?

I would take her back to the dr. Since she is so young I wouldnt use anything over the counter. Make sure she is drinking nothing but water for cranberry juice though.

Don't use anything else without knowing what is going on.
Take her back to the Doctor.
Maybe the infection is not gone... sometimes they have to use another family of antibiotics... if one does not work.

Don't "guess" if she has a yeast infection... take her to the Doctor.
If you use yeast creams, without knowing for sure if that is what is wrong... you will be making things worse.

all the best,
Susan

The antibiotic could have given her a yeast infection, after all it does it to us women sometimes too, right? I would still take her to the doctor, you can't be too safe since she is so young, anything over the counter might do more harm than good. Good Luck!

If urination still is a problem you need to take her back. the infection might not be gone, or recurred after it was gone. You doctor can also test for a yeast infection.
These types of infections are very common in girls. Make sure that she changes her underwear daily, that her pants and undies aren't too tight, that she wipes front to back AND no soap on private parts, clean gently with water only.
Good luck!

Are you sure the infection is gone?
What kind of antibiotics did they give her?
My 4yo daughter was given amoxicilan at urgent care about 2 weeks ago. She still had a fever 3 days later, so I took her back to her dr and she said that the amox is not always the best choice. She gave us a new med that quickly turned her symptoms away.
I dont remember what it is called but she takes it every 12 hrs. You might have to take her back to get it checked out. You don't want to find blood in her urine!
For yeast infections I remember my boss telling me to put plain yogurt in the baby's diaper, but she is to old for that, so maybe on a pad?
Plain yogurt has natural bacteria that can fight it. Or you can just get some Monostat for her as well if thats more comforting.
Good luck and I hope she feels better!

I think you should try giving her yogurt for about a week. Any time people, especially females, are on an antibiotic, you should eat yogurt at the same time. If you can't do yogurt, try an OTC probiotic like Lactinex or something. That should clear it up fairly quickly.

Good luck!

She needs a follow up visit with the pediatrician. Good luck!
