My son is 3 and has been using the flouride free toothpaste. My doctor recommended him start the fouride toothpaste. I bought him the Toms of Maine Strawberry and he did well with it for a couple weeks. Now he is saying it is too spicy and I tried it and it tastes grainy and would be spicy to him. Any recommendation for a toddler friendly toothpaste?

Thanks.

We just use the aquafresh kids or something I think, honestly whatever toothpaste for kids is on sale =) You only need a small amount on the toothbrush for them and as long as he spits, he'll be fine =)

Weleda offers a tooth gel for children that is free of dyes, nasty chemicals and such that you would not want your kid ingesting, even in small bits. You would find it at places like Whole Foods, amazon.com, holistic pharmacies, etc. Tom's of Maine also offers kid-friendly toothpastes, I believe some with and without fluoride.

I would beware the big brand name toothpastes (Crest, Colgate) for children - please read the labels. Lots of dyes and chemicals that your son just doesn't need to be ingesting so early on in life.

Good luck!

we use the Oragel w/ Little Bear on it and my son likes it. typically if you drink tap water that is all the flouride he needs if he does not like the flouride toothpaste. and was this the Dr or Dentist that said this?

and Brita water filers and most other brands do not remove the floride from local tap water.

My daughter is 3 and really likes Colgate Kids fruity bubblegum flavor - it's also a little minty and she really likes that too ("My teeth are tingly!"). I don't know if they are still around but a few years ago Crest came out with different flavors combined with mint (cinnamon, vanilla, etc.) so maybe try those too if they are available.

Burt's Bees now makes children's toothpaste. One with flouride and one without.

My 3yo has been using my Toms of Main mint or Crest mint lately. I have always gotten him Colgate's Bubblefruit flavor but once he tried mine, he decided he likes mint better. Go figure.
