My son is 20 months old and his leg kept getting stuck in the slats of his crib.We didn't know what to do except put a bumper back into it. But if we did that he would be able to climb out. So we bought him a tiddler bed that is made for 15+ months.
He did ok in it the first few days, and then he started to get up at night around 3-4am and he is still doing it.
He is wide awake and we keep putting him back in bed and he keeps getting up and coming to our room.
What can we do?

What can I do next?

My daughter use to do this, and we finally ended up rewarding her to stay in bed. We gave everyone who slept well through the night 3 jelly beans in the morning. after a few times of Daddy getting rewards and her not getting any, she finally quit doing it so that she could be like daddy. After about 2 weeks, we quit with the candy and just clapped for everyone who was good through the night, and now we don't have any problems what so ever! another option is what my sister did. she started by putting a child safety gate across her daughter's door way, and then ignoring her. the first couple of nights, she would stand at the gate and cry and finally fall asleep there on the floor, but after a while, she just started giving up earlier and earlier until she finally would just roll over and go back to sleep because she knew no one was getting up to play. What ever you do, stick to it! And good luck!

Hi G.,
Luckily when we put our 19 month old daughter into a toddler bed we were also moving into a new house. We painted her new room right away and put up big girl decorations. she was so excited she loves sleeping in her bed. Maybe your son would like a room makeover. That could be his new big boy room.
However my nephew did not like his bed, and didn't care that his room was newly painted and new pics got hung on the wall. He also got up in the middle of the night. Instead of going to his moms room, he went to the fridge and ate!!! My sis put a gate up in his doorway. He still got up but he couldn't go anywhere, which was no fun. After a few nights (well, almost two weeks) of just getting sent to bed he finally decided he would sleep.
Good luck!
S.

My daughter did this too, except she'd wonder the house. We put up a kiddie gate in her doorway, then I could sleep because I knew she couldn't leave her room. The first couple nights afterwards she'd cry at the gate and I'd tell her it was 'night night' time and she had to go to bed. Then there were a couple mornings we found her asleep on the floor by her door, she just didn't know what to think of the bed at first.

We used a portable play pen for the in-between crib and bed times. They also make a netting that goes over cribs or playpens to keep them in.

As far as keeping him from leaving his room (which can be unsafe at night - as well as bothersome to you!) change the doorknob lock around on his door - that way, you can lock it from the outside. All of these worked with our 4 kids - I wish you the best of luck ;)

hi, So we started our son at 15mo in a toddler bed and he started doing the exact same thing. It didn't take long though. my husband would get up with him and send him back to bed and wouldnt leave until he went back to sleep. then he woke up less at night. it is something to get use too. He will eventually stay. we sometimes use to wake up and he would be on the couch or the floor of his bed. but it something that went away after a little while.

My little girl did that too... keep putting him back in bed- he will stop it after awhile.. you could also set up a blanket on the floor of your room and tell him that if he wants to come into your room at night he can- but he needs to lay down on his floor bed and not wake up mom and dad because you need your sleep too.
Just wait till he starts having night mares at two years old and sleep walking (if he does) then it gets really interesting. Whoever said kids sleep through the night at six weeks forgot to mention that they sleep erratically for a long long time!!

The best thing you can do is make him really tired during the day so he will sleep throughout the night. Take him to the park and play baseball, go swimming or even go to the library and read lots of books. Then give him some warm chocolate milk before bedtime, if he doesn't have any allergies, that is.

Have you thought about putting a baby gate in front of the door to his room to keep him from wandering? That way if he wakes up in the middle of the night, he's confined to his room and won't be able to bother you in the wee hours of the morning.
