Hi Ladies,

I am approaching 40 soon and have had weird periods for about 5years now. Mostly anytime I'm stressed, I'll have a period every 19 days! This has all the annoying things that go along with a period, like moodiness, food cravings and tiredness. This is really putting a "cramp" in my life! I have two beautiful children (age 9 & almost 14) and am really finished. What are my options?

on of the ladies on here referred me to Dr Michael Smith in Boerne. He's the ONLY dr who has listened and addressed my hormones. I've been to over 5 before him. It is worth the drive to boerne too!!!

He's at the Boerne's Women Care (or Center). Easy to google!!
:)

Good Luck!

S., I am 29 (will be 30 in 3 weeks) I have 2 girls 10 and 8, I can't see myself "starting over" with a baby, but on the other hand I am still young, I am not 100% sure I am DONE. So I was also tired of the periods that would last for up to 3 weeks and all the "annoying things that go along with" it, so I was on the depo shot for a while, then I got the Mirena IUD put in I have had it for 5 months and only had 2 periods they were like spotting. This was the answer for me, you may want to talk to your OBGYN and get a list of options that sound good for you then you can come back to this site and get a more specific answer to a specific procedure.

time - ablation - hysterectomy - sterilization

There are pros / cons to each - you should talk to your OBGYN to see what options are available for you, then research those options. You may find that even the options available for you are not options.

Find a good gyn doctor ASAP. Don't suffer any longer or waste anymore time. You have many options and a good doc can help you.

See your Gyn - you may be beginning peri-menapause. It can start as early as in your late 30's. You don't say if you are currently using birth control, but you need to be extra careful if you don't want to have another one. My sister with a 20 yr, and a 10 yr old at the time, ended up pregnant in her 40's since some BC methods are less reliable during this period of your life.

A couple of years ago at 39, I started to have periods every 2-3 weeks apart and my Gyn gave me some hormones to "reset" my cycle and then put me back on birth control pills. After a year, I stopped the BC pills and it has been more regular since then, but every so often I will still get two in one month.

I have friends with the Mirena IUD and they love it. Ablation might be an option, but generally you have to have some serious bleeding, anemia etc for your insurance to cover it.

I have a friend who was really helped by the doctors at Hotze Health and Wellness in Houston. They use some specific form of hormones to regulate your system.

I know somebody who had a procedure that stopped her periods. It is probably the ablation procedure. Ask your OBGYN.

I got the Mirena IUD a year ago an it's the BEST! It works for 5 years, and most people have lighter and fewer periods, and now I have really light one every couple of months and no PMS or cramps! SOme insurnace covers it, ut if not, it's about $500, so a little pricy, ut about what you would pay for 5 yrs of pills. It's also jsut as effective as gettign your tubes tied. The only down side is that it was painfulthe day it was put in and I had terrible cramps, but they were gone the next day. Definatly do some research on your own, it may be a good fit for your situation!

I have had a similar problem for a few years where I have spotting in the middle of my cycle, along with cramps and headaches. I've gone to 2 different doctors and I've tried at least 6 different birth control pills, but none have stopped it. Next week, I'm going to have another sonogram before I decide what to try next. My gynecologist wants to find out what happens if I stop the pills completely for awhile. One option she mentioned is a procedure where they burn off the lining, I forgot what it's called, but it's only for women that are not planning more kids. I haven't decided what to do yet, but I'm really getting tired of dealing with this.

It's not cheap but it's worth every penny.
