Tipping the Birthday Party Hostess?

My son just had a birthday party at a small zap zone. We did two rounds of laser tag and one game of cannon ball. The hostess was sweet, checked on us several times. I wasn't sure if I should tip her at the end? We served all our own food. She just made sure we had everything we needed. I have been to pump it up parties before and seen some good hostesses and some not good ones! I think our host was great, but at the end didn't feel like the amt of work she did was worth a top. So my question is: Do you usually tip the hostess at a birthday party?

Nickie

So after reading a few responses, I have another ?!! There was another employee at Zap zone that did the laster tag and cannon ball. Our hostess did not! So I'm assuming I should tip him too? What do you think?!

What can I do next?

My daughters 1st & 2nd birthday parties I did on my own. Her 3 - 5th party I did at a pony farm where I have to cook the food and they serve, still a lot of work. Her 6th party was at the Ice Skating center and I didn't do a thing! I tip because I know how much work it is to make the parties happen!

Yes. I tip servers. If they were checking on me? I would've left a small amount - say 10%...if she had served us and everything else? I would've tipped 20%.

Yes, because that person was assigned to your party to make sure everything went well for your child.

Daughter's bf used to work at Chuck E Cheese and be the host and it was deplorable at how parents treated him.. He made sure all the kids were happy, there was plenty of food, drink, cleaned EVERYTHING up afterwards.... Mom/dad did nothing but enjoy the party. Many parents gave no tip but he made out well when the NBA team players and pther sports figures who live in our area had parties for their children. One NBA guy gave him an autograph and a $200 tip.

He said you can usually spot the ones who go cheap and will not tip.

I'm sorry if I come across rudely, it is not my intention, but these hosts and hostesses for parties rely on decent tips.

ETA: Yes to tipping the person who ran the laser tag and cannon ball. Keep in mind, they were assigned to you to help your party run smoothly.

If you were her and did what she did and did it with a smile, even if it is her "job"... would you appreciate a tip?

And, she seems to have been the only one assigned to your group/table/party and everyone.

Hi N.-

YES!! Please do tip! My third son used to work at lazer nation...and so often the parents would NOT tip. He was very patient with often VERY large groups of littler ones (often pretty excited about lazer nation)...

He worked hard for 'minimum' wage...more tips would have made his day!

Best luck!

I always tip the hostess. She does not get paid extra when she is tending to your party, but it does had a lot of extra work to do parties. To me, it seems only fair.

Yes, I do, especially if she did a great job. Those hosts/hostesses make very little money & usually have to put up with alot.
