This Is Really Gross, So Sorry

Ok--this is really embarrassing, but I need to figure it out. I dont know why, but for the last couple of weeks, since the weather has gotten cooler, I am noticing a stronger than normal body odor and feminine odor. At first I was thinking that it was because I was dressing warmer, and having the heat in my home that maybe I have just been sweating more. I don't know if that's the right answer, though.

Not to be gross, but I know we've all had days where we haven't showered before. I'm on break right now, so I'm relaxing. I'm staying home as much as possible, and doing as little as possible outside of spending quality time with my daughter. Well, in the past, if I couldn't shower one day because I was rushing, it wasn't that big of a deal. I would wash my face, put clean clothes on, do deodorant, spray a little spray and go. Not that I smelled the greatest when I got home after a day like this, but I wasn't knocking myself out either.

I was sure that this was a problem the other night when I took a shower at night and smelled bad the very next morning. Now, normally when I shower at night, I wake up still smelling like a shower. Now, if I take a shower at night, I smell like I haven't showered for a whole day by the time I wake up. And there is no way I can go anywhere if I haven't showered since the morning before, because now one day without a shower smells like I haven't showered for three days. I mean, again, this is disgusting and I'm sorry......but I need to straighten this problem out. This includes feminine odor by the way.

Update: I don't think it's just feminine odor. It's pretty much every kind of normal body odor that's gotten stronger.

Thank you!

So What Happened?

SH--my heart stopped when I read your post, I really hope I'm not. That would be not a good thing at all. I don't think there's any chance of it, but there's always a chance. I know this is crazy but my daughter's dad and I got together a couple of times.......I don't know why, please don't ask me to explain that one.

I was kind of wondering if I had a yeast infection. I'll see what I can do to get rid of it. I'll let you know if I figure out how to get rid of it!! thanks, ladies!! Oh, and yes Dial sop--I need to go back to it. I switched to Dove, but that was weeks ago.

Could it be a yeast infection? Start taking some acidopholus and see a doctor if it doesn't clear up. You can even make a paste and apply directly with the acidopholus. Good luck!

Since it's winter you may not be drinking as much water as you used to? We do have a more concentrated aroma if we become dehydrated. Pineapple is very good to eat or drink for BO and veejay odor... it also works for the taste of men's semen as well..... It does something to the bodies ph.
Sorry if I offended someone with that... but I know it's fact.
Clean, cotton sheets on the bed might help you as well :)

First of all, it's not that gross. And I don't think women should apologize for using this site to get answers! How else can we help each other if we don't know what's going on?

Secondly, bodies change over time and with hormonal changes. Doesn't mean you're pregnant. Doesn't mean you aren't.

If you take a shower and go to bed, your armpits are nice and warm and not airing out - so you will wake up with body odor from the normal bacteria on your skin having a nice warm place to multiply and give off their waste products, which causes odor. You may need to use antiperspirant after your shower even if you aren't running around doing errands. There's a difference between deodorant and antiperspirant too - they have different functions. So what you're using can make a difference.

Hormones can also change the vaginal secretions, which can cause odor. If it's excessive in the amount of secretions or if the color/consistency is different, it could be a yeast infection.

Are you sweating at night? Are you too bundled up? Night sweats don't just occur in middle-aged menopausal women - they can occur with any hormonal changes too, or even if you are a very active dreamer who moves around a lot. Are you completely dry when you put on your pajamas? Are they tight fitting or do they let some air circulate a little?

I'd keep an eye on this, keep a little diary if it's not every day, and maybe change a few variables to see if it makes a difference. If not, or even if everything else is resolved but the feminine odor, give your primary care or ob/gyn a call about it. Having good notes about when/where/what will help the doctor.

I don't know about the b.o., but if your va-jay-jay is experiencing a fishy odor, then it's from a bacteria called gardnerella, which some idiot gyn.'s don't seem to know about. You have to treat it with an antibiotic, or whatever drug category oral metronidazole falls under.

By the way ladies -- va-jay-jays aren't supposed to smell fishy, regardless of what comedians say - so if you have that problem, get checked for gardnerella.

Sometimes "icky" smells are just that..."icky smells" They can OR CANNOT be related to routine smells. After 32 years as a RN (OK promise you will never tell anyone my experience-you know that age discrimination thing) I worked with the most delightful 32 year old woman who was a few pounds overweight (if we are being honest---it was actually more like 24 lbs) who had a "smell". Turned out to be yeast with something growing in her bellybutton that no one could see. Once taken care of with Diflucan, it was no longer a problem. Look long and hard with any smell. In my experience,,,,it always has a cause you can fix.

If I am rushing and get dressed before I am fully dried off I sometimes notice a slight smell at the end of the day. After I had a c-section I had a fold of skin near the incision and I had to lie down and dry it really carefully. Also, I'm not sure if your daughter is still a baby but my hormones took months to settle fully after the baby (10 months for my period to come back).

Winter months tend to increase the chance for a bacterial or yeast infection because women tend to wear clothing (pants) that are made from heavy material, or which are lined, or we wear warmer types of hosery & tights--all of which restrict air flow and create the perfect environment for a vaginal infection. (If there's an odor, it's probably bacterial and you'll need some antibiotics for it.)

As for other body odor, heavier clothing makes the body sweat more and again, locks the moisture and bacteria close to the skin. Try showering with Dial bar soap (a good anti-bacterial soap) instead of a soap like Dove, etc. That might help lower the amount of bacterial that the skin can carry naturally. Also, you might want to dry clean or launder any sweaters that maybe harboring the bacteria from the last time you wore (and perspired) in them.

You may have a yeast infection; it not only affects feminine oder, it can also make your sweat smell awful too. You should consult your doctor because at this point, it sounds like it could be something somewhat serious.

Haven't read the other posts, and do not know if I am right at all but you could be pre menopausal. Welcome to our world. On the other hand you could also think if you have eaten anything different, taken new vitamins, changed soaps, or are extremely stressed or depressed. All these things can change your hormone balance.

Diet also affects body odor. Are you eating different things? Foods with strong flavors?

I apply antiperspirant immediately after showering. I've found that I need an antiperspirant under my breasts too. I use an antibacterial bar soap. I didn't always have to be this thorough. Our bodies change over time. This could just be a natural change.

I've also found that my body gets used to the antiperspirant or deodorant and I have to change brands from time to time. I also, oddly enough, perspire more during the night in the winter.

Also, once a garment has body odor it has to be cleaned before wearing it again. Sweaters especially hold odor.

how old are you? perimenopause changes hormones and smells too, but that usually happens around age 50-ish. Ask your doctor what could be causing it in the new year. In the mean time, I do a lot of "mini-washes" during the day with baby-wipes. Get a few tubs and keep them handy for bum and armpit washes with a little extra deodorant put on afterwards.

Well are you about to start your period? I have a friend who says the week before and the week of her period she always gets way stronger body odor. She like you usually bathes everyday but sometimes skips a day or will shower at night. But during those 2 weeks she says she HAS to shower every morning in order to keep herself smelling clean. She says it just has to do with her hormones working harder because of her period. So If I were you just start showering every day and every morning at that.
