We have decided to take a road trip this summer for our vacation and it will begin in Fort Worth, TX and go to Georgia. I am looking for, fun, must see/do places between the 2 and in each state. I have 2 kids ages 8 (boy) and 3 (girl). I have told the aquarium in Georgia is a must and that is as far as I have gotten. Hoping you gals and guys can suggest others. TIA

What can I do next?

The aquarium is incredible. Beluga whales are beautiful. Centennial Park is also nice and when we visited years ago they had patriotic music playing in sync with fountains.

If you're taking I-20 the whole way you'll go through Longview, Shreveport, Vicksburg, Meridian, Birmingham and Atlanta. Shreveport has a nice science museum. Monroe is where Duck Dynasty store is located if that appeals to you. Vicksburg has a lot of civil war history and a beautiful cemetery if that's interesting to you. Meridian doesn't have a lot to offer and if you decide to stay there pm me because my husband's family lives there so I can tell you safe hotels to stay. Birmingham Zoo is a really nice zoo. One thing we try to do when we travel is taste food from the area. If you've never experienced a muffalata or beignets or crawfish Louisiana is a great place to experience those.

Have fun and I also use trip advisor a lot when traveling. I frequent the route on I-20 so if I can help, just send me a message.

Blessings!

The Aquarium in Atlanta is very good. It is right next door to the Coke Museum, too, which is pretty interesting (with free samples you can choose from every flavor they produce at the end of the tour--over a hundred choices, I think you can choose 10 of them, plus a small glass bottle of coke as a souvenier).

Also, if you are in Atlanta while it is seasonable weather, you should try to go to Stone Mountain. You can climb the mountain (the 3 year old will not be able to make the peak on her own, but there is a tram that someone can ride up with her to the top). There is a big play barn for the kids there, and an obstacle/rope course as well. Your son would LOVE it.
At night, on the large green, they have a laser light show on the flat side of the mountain.

There are some interesting civil war forts along the GA coast, if you are into that. And a train station/museum in Savannah somewhat near the downtown/river front area.

Lots of people enjoy the beaches (Tybee Island, St. Simon's Island, Jekyll Island, Cumberland Island). Jekyll has been undergoing a developmental renovation the past few years and is pretty nice these days. It's a state park, so parking fee, but miles of bike trails, putt putt golf course, golfing for you/husband (?), and a water park (Summer Waves, open during the summer/vacation season only). Cumberland is pretty amazing.. undisturbed beaches, the wild horses and not yet fallen down estate... but it would be a tough day for a 3 year old. You have to ride a ferry over (it's about 30-45 minutes I believe) and once there, there are no amenities. There are restrooms, and a small small gift shop/ranger station. But anything you bring in, you must bring back out with you. (This would include diapers if your 3 year old is still in them). You backpack whatever supplies you expect to need. Including snacks, drinks and bug spray. (and you'll need the bug spray, and probably sun block also).

If you belong to AAA, they can plan trip out with things to see and do. If you do not belong, you should probably join since you are doing a road trip. I would do AAA plus. Can't beat it.

Since this is a driving trip, I want to recommend that you join AAA now (and if you're already a member, great!). The have travel services and can create a "TripTik" for you. This is a map that they mark up, with you sitting there, and they will help you find a TON of great places to stop; they'll find you a good route with scenic stuff along the way so you're not always on big, boring highways; they can help you with hotels (and get you discounts). If there's something for which you need tickets (a water park, an amusement park, etc.) they often can get you the tickets in advance and at a good discount.

I used their travel services for the first time the other week, having been a member for years, and it was absolutely great. In particular, we got a nice city center hotel for a really good price because AAA travel services has deals through "hotel consolidators" that mean good rates on rooms.

They're about the last place left with actual, human travel agents who can sit down with you. And once you're a member you can have ALL the maps and travel books (worth their weight in gold) that you want, no limits. I would join and go ask for a TripTik as well as getting all the travel books and maps for the states through which you'll pass.

Plus if you join and the car has trouble -- your towing is totally covered anywhere in the U.S. Saves a ton if there are problems.

I know this sounds like a AAA ad, but truly, I was about to give up on planning our spring break vacation -- got very frustrated trying to find flights, rent a car, decide on a hotel, etc. I was about to quit and say let's stay local. But I went to the AAA center and an agent there did it all and did it so fast. I was sick of trying to compare stuff and I don't trust the "Priceline" type sites that won't tell me what hotel I'm booking until I fork over the money....So I'd really recommend AAA. The unlimited maps and guidebooks alone are worth the membership, and the towing and jump-start services are lifesavers.

I don't have anything add other than I've also heard he aquarium is good too.

You might want to check to see if each state or even each city you're stopping in has a historical society. If so, they often can suggest places to see or go. Or check to see if there a traveler's bureau/department for each state. Try googling georgia.com or texas.com and see what happens. Some states have websites with tourist information about their state. This might be a good thing for your son to do, because he could also kern about each states capitol, state bird, state food, state flower, etc.

Also, others have mentioned AAA for travel help. I recommend them too, not only for travel planning. If you are traveling by car, it's good to have AAA in case you get a flat, the battery dies, the radiator goes dry, etc. You can all AAA and they will send someone to hep you. I think this is especially important since you have kids.

Have fun planning your trip. I wish I could go with you since I've never seen that part of our county.
