So I am just seventeen years old and about six weeks pregnant . I have been having bad morning sickness and I work in the mornings . Unconveniently , I work at Johnnie's Beef and I am a vegetarian so the smells of the food enhance my nausea tenfold . This is my first job and I need it now more than ever being pregnant and alone . Is there anything that could help besides quitting my job ? I cannot keep food down and consequently haven't been able to eat for about eight hours ... :( Please help

What can I do next?

Thanks sooo much for all of the responses ... Been hearing that this will go away soon . I hope so . I will try the wristbands and I found out that orange juice oddly calms my nausea ... Thanks for all of the suggestions , will try them and am hopefully on my way to a healthy pregnancy :)

Ginger can help with nasuea, you may want to contact your doctor about it as well.

Until you can get to your doctor...

Seaband wrist bands for motion sickness (you can get them at a drug store) helped me.

And with one pregnancy lemon kept me going...lemon candy and lemonade...as long as I was sucking on a lemon drop the nausea was manageable. (I was teaching high school at the time and had to keep going).

Second pregnancy peppermint helped some (lemon made me feel sicker), also very salty things like Pringles potato chips AND a fully sugared cokes from a machine like in fast food restaurants or gas stations (not the cans or bottles).

Only lasted 12 weeks with first and ten weeks with second prgnancy so hopefully in a few weeks you will feel much better.

OH, and no matter how sick you feel DO NOT make yourself throw up...you will not feel any better like with a stomach bug...it will make it worse!!!!

HUGS!!!

A., I assume you have a doctor. Talk to your doctor about this. You have to keep hydrated and you have to eat something. If you don't, you'll end up in the hospital and not be able to work anyway.

Don't wait - call them. And sip on water - you don't want to be dehydrated.

Good luck,
Dawn

In some cases you can collect disability during maternity leave. Not sure if you can so early in pregnacy but worth looking into. I feel your pain too I had horrible morning sickness the first 5 months then on and off the duration of my 2nd pregnacy good luck

Working in a restaurant would have been really tough for me with all the smells but here's a few things that worked for me.

Stay hydrated -if you get dehydrated, that alone will make you feel sick and can cause you to vomit. I've had to go the dr/hospital many times for IVs. And empty stomach will make you sick as well - right now you haven't eaten for 8 hours which isn't good.

I found ice cold stayed down better. Popcicles, pickles from the fridge, chewing on ice, icee's, smoothies, etc. Sip it slowly and that helps it stay down as well.

Eat often and small amounts - I really struggled because in the morning, I'd have an empty stomach and I'd wake up throwing up. So, I'd have cheerios by my bed and I'd snack on them through out the night. I'd then set my alarm early and I'd eat cheerios (or any dry cereal) or crackers (or whatever you want) and then lay back down for 30 mins or so. That helped a lot.

I would snack vs eat meals - this helps tremendously. Also, if you can get down 70 grams of protein a day, you'll feel better. I couldn't eat meat when I was pregnant, so I did it without meat. Soy milk has a lot of protein, I lived on that with my last one. I'd make smoothies with frozen strawberries. Surprisingly, there is protein in veggies as well.

Ginger helps soothe nausea - You can buy ginger candy, ginger altoids, ginger tea - anything ginger helps. Gingerale helped my stomach and helped hydrate me. Peppermint helped too - altoids or gum. Citrus flavored candy, mints helped. I used to suck on lemons and put it in my water.

If you are into alternative medicine - acupuncture worked for my last pregnancy. She also gave me some chinese herbal "drops" that I would suck on and that helped and they were really cheap. So, I would assume you could call accupuncturist and see if they sell them.

While I was really sick, I couldn't take my prenatals - so I took 2 kids gummy vitamins - better than nothing.

Good luck - I know it sucks, but it gets better. It doesn't last forever I promise!!

I hope that you have a doctor or clinic that you've gone to. If so, please call them. There are prescription antinausea medicines that are safe to use during pregnancy that could help you.

One thing, that has not yet been mentioned, is peppermint. Try sucking on an Altoid or any other peppermints if you are able to. Many people's morning sickness goes away after the first trimester - since you are about halfway you don't have much longer - hopefully yours will go away!!!!
