Hi, I have a 14 month old and am debating on wether or not to give him the flu
shot. My husband and I have never had one. My Mom says "no" that we never got
them that young. I gues my concern is all the buzz about Autism. Also I know you
can get sick from the shot too. He is in daycare 2 days a week. Any advice would be great. Thanks

What can I do next?

My pediatrician actually recomended it. I hadn't given it a lot of thought until I started asking questions and decided that it was the best thing for him. Both my husband and I have gotten the flu in the last two years and my son because he got the flu shot never got sick. We both were very sick and in bed for a few days. Thank goodness I got it first and then he got it after I was almost recovered. I got his first flu shot right after he turned a year and I totally believe in it.

Hope this helps.

I got them for mine as soon as they were old enough. My daughter had the flu at 5 mos. and it was awful. I don't get it for myself, but I do it for them... talk to your doctor.

You should get your child a flu shot. Children, the elderly, and people with chronic illness can develop complications from the flu. You child can't get the flu from the vaccine but as will any vaccine there are a few side effects.
I work for a Pediatic office and our web page has information regarding the flu vaccine if you'd like to view www.sspediatrics.com You may also get information at cdc.gov for all vaccines. My children, one of which has asthma get a flu shot every year. My husband and I both get a flu vaccine every year. My husband teaches and had the flu one year that was enough for him. Due to my exposure to sick children I now get on every year. I hope this helps.

Only my unprofessional opinion... I have never had the flu. I am 41, my daughter is almost 3 and my son is 5. They have not had the shot either. I am hoping they have inherited my good immune system. We just wash our hands a lot! If I were sick a lot I'd probably get one.....Good luck! L.:-)
