Hi--you may have already received this suggestion, but Magic Eraser seems to get everything off of floors, walls, and tables.

Thank you to everyone who sent me great suggestions!
Thank you to everyone for the great suggestions! The Sharpie marker is off the floor now. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser worked on most of it and where the poly finish on the floor was more worn Clorox Clean up worked.

I've heard rubbing a small amount of creamy peanut butter on the area would work. Let it sit for a couple minutes and wipe clean with soft cloth. I've never tried it, but it's worth a shot! Please post what works after all so we'll know what to do if and when. Thanks!
That just happened to me last week. I used some Softscrub and a toothbrush and it came right off. Just remember to wipe up the softscrub good so it doesn't leave a residue. Hope it works.

You might want to try vinegar and water. Vinegar is a great natural cleaner.
I would be extra cautious with the magic eraser, bleach and many of the other harsh chemicals as they are toxic and could do some pretty serious damage to your surface - but most importantly your precious family. I would highly recommend the SolUMel from Melaleuca. It will remove anything from permanent marker to sap, tar, glue, fingernail polish, grease. Anything I've tried it on, has been removed successfully without damage to the surface and without sacrificing the health of my family.
My 3 yr old did that last week - majic eraser got it right up
Hi S. - I got permanent marker off my sons crocs with goo gone... Another tip just in case you ever need it. I got RED fingernail polish out of my CARPET, yes carpet with some stuff called SPOT SHOT. it's an upholstrery cleaner that I got at Wal-Mart. It's in a blue can with an orange lid. GOOD LUCK !!
Try Mr. Clean magic eraser.
Try Soft scrub an a damp sponge-
I have a Stain Removal Guide that has gives the following advise for Ball Point Ink: Rub glycerin into area; let stand 15-20 min., wash with dish washing liquid, or spray with inexpensive hair spray and flush with water. Felt-Tip ink: flush with denatured alcohol using eyedropper; wash with dish-washing detergent. This guide is really for fabrics, but it may work. My personal thought is that depending on how large of an area it is, try using a fine grade of sand paper to sand it off. Since the ink is soaked into the wood, I don't think anything will draw it out, you'll just have to take it off. Buy a small can of polyurethene to brush on if it is a large area, or you can buy a 3 pack of stain markers that are designed to cover scratches. I had the same problem except it was on carpet. We are just having to live with a light green stain :(
Try WD-40. Hope it works!
I once got sharpie off paneling using Citrus spray that you can get most anywhere. It may, however, take off the finish. It didn't with the paneling but then it's not finished like flooring. That was before the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers came out, you might look at those. They are fabulous at other cleaning jobs. Apple told me to use them to clean my white laptop & it works great. I used them a lot when cleaning our walls to sell our home, saved me some painting!
Good luck.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is AWESOME for just that. They're only about $2 for 2 of them. Good luck :)
Try windex..the blue kind...my son used sharpie to draw on a wood chair and I believe that is what we used...good luck!
Hello. I wanted to mention that hairspray is a GREAT ink remover & not nearly as invasive as bleach.
be well. -elmo.
I haven't tried it on Sharpie myself, but the Mr Clean Magic Erasers have been able to clean just about anything I have tried - and I know a few people who have used them on Sharpie stains also. Good luck!
Sometimes hairspray will work. It works great on clothing for ball point pens. Also try baking soda. If these do not work, please let us know. I have a book at home that has lots of ideas for home remedies.
I have used a soft scrub brillo pad and it worked. It didn't hurt the floor either. Just wet it a little first.
Magic Eraser. I have used this twice. I have a four year old that had two episodes with this before I found every sharpie in the house and put them away. :) It doesn't even have to be the name brand. Food City has an off brand and they are great. I keep them all the time. They are good for walls, too.
My 5 yr old wrote on our dining table with a sharpie. I used hand sanitizer to get it up. I would also try a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I have had a lot of success removing marks with that too.
S. D---
Haven't tried this on a sharpie - but other things it has worked real well - just plain ole Pine Sol and a little muscle seems to have gotten all kinds of spots off my hardwood flooring - may not work for you, but it's worth a try.
Happy Day!!

Magic eraser gets everything off!
baking soda will also remove permanent marker, even off of your body. You will have to scrub a little harder but it will remove it... GOOD LUCK
S.,
sol-u-mel will get sharpie off just as easy as wiping up water with a paper towel! And it's non toxic. I have switched stores and shop with a wellness company (WHOLESALE!!!) If you would like mre info on their products call me!

Hairspray - it works like a champ! Spray, let sit for a moment and wipe off - it'll make you think twice about using it in your hair though! ;)
have you tried GooGone. It works for almost everything.
S., try the dry erase board remover. I know it takes off permanent marker from banners, but I am not sure about hard wood floors. Also, you might want to test it in an area that won't be seen if it bleaches out the wood. Hope this helps.
S.
Try hairspray. I've heard it will take off all types of ink on any surface including clothes.
K. L
I have always had good luck with Goo Be Gone......hope it helps-- I suppose you could read the back before you purchase it but it gets a lot of stains out.
Try a diluted mixture of bleach and water. I recently had a ink cartridge explode all over my hands and hardwood floor. I ended up reading about it online and they suggested this approach. I only had a bottle of clorox cleanup. So i mixed one part clorox cleanup with 10 parts water. It was like magic. Research it online. I am not sure if it will work on all types of hardwood floors. My has a pretty solid poly coat in it. I just googled it online.
Good Luck
Try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It works on most everything.
I just wanted to mention a website that some might find helpful if you are looking for gentler cleaning products: www.healthychild.org.
I second the mention of Melaleuca's Sol-U-Mel. It is safe for your kids, biodegradable and will work on almost any stain or odor. I have removed Sharpie from my hardwood floors with it, no harm to the finish, just wiped right off! No scrubbing even :)
Try rubbing alcohol. I know it works for removing sharpie from x-ray film, but not sure about hardwoods, but at least it is inexpensive if it does not work on the floor.
try spraying some aerosol hairspray on the mark then wiping it up with a damp cloth. or a magic eraser, they will pretty much remove anything.
try toothpaste. My kids used a sharpie on my wood table and toothpaste took it out. Be careful though it could take off the finish and/or dry it out. Good Luck!
Magic Sponge- it works everytime. My 3 year old wrote on my counter top and I used a magic sponge and it came right off.
Magic Eraser got Sharpie off my wall - My daughter drew a spider on the wall and on a wooden table. We thought it would be permanent but the Magic Eraser took it off the wall and furniture too. They are amazing things.
Have you tried a Mr Clean magic eraser? I don't know if you can use it on hard wood floors but it is worth a try.
Magic Eraser. It works in alot of ways!
I recommend trying Goof Off or mineral spirits. You can find either in the paint department of your local hardware store.
If that does not work, you will have to sand and refinish.
try alcohol, if that don't work you will have to use a varnish remover and restain and varnish
I've used toothpaste as well....with a gentle cloth and wee bit of rubbing.
hugs

PLEEEASE say that it was a small area... Sharpie is permanent (duh) and is sitting on the surface of polyeurethane, which is usually put on top of the stained wood. UNLESS you are like us, have an old house, and have pulled up carpet and not yet refinished the floor.
1) In either case, I would first GENTLY try an SOS pad. I have removed old paint from our floor this way, but our older finishes (old varnish) have also been removed, leaving a slight halo. I'm just planning on having them refinished ultimately. An SOS pad on newer floors (recent construction or refinished) does not do much harm if you take it easy and don't dig.
2) Next, I would try denatured alcohol with a slight abrasive... something like a scrunge pad you would use for dishes. Denatured alcohol dissolves acrylic. This may soften the polyeurethane sealant, so go easy. You'll want to have a dry rag handy in case the sharpie starts to bleed and you can blot it rather than spread it.
3) If that doesn't work, and it may not, you can use gentle swipes of paint thinner or fingernail polish remover. This will also soften the polyeurethane surface, so be very careful. You usually have 2-3 coats at least of poly to seal, so you can afford a little thinning on top.
Finally, the rule is: use less solvent and more elbow grease. Try to keep the rubbing along the woodgrain, in case you add marks to the surface, they will be less obvious that way.
Let me know what happens, please... I am a painter and am constantly solving these little "problems." I'd love to know that outcome.
alcohol, magic eraser,If you happen to have a pampered chef scraping tool, some times olive oil works...Oh I see I was a little late in my responce.Glad its off...what worked?
magic eraser should do it
When all else fails, call Sharpie Company, Customer Service! You never know what little tricks they have up their sleeve. Hope you were able to find a solution.
Melaleuca's Pre-Spot has always gotten it off of everything for me. Sometimes I add a little Solumel too, but it has aorked everytime!

hi
Just had a friend go through this with their grand daughter.
They went to Lowes and got Goof Off 2 it's in a orange spray bottle.
The perment marker came off everything.
Try Goof off or Goo gone. I had the same thing happen and that got it off. Also, get a dry erase marker and color over the lines of the sharpie-now erase, that's supposed to work too, but I didn't have to try that one. Good Luck- J.
try the Magic eraser, Had that problem on my kitchen table..
use the magic eraser, came right off.
S. D.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (with blue scrub side works best on hardwood floors). They don't last very long, but they truly are amazing. I too have a 3 year old... Mr. Clean is my new best friend! Have a good day.
My first thought would be Mr. Clean Eraser. I have never taken permanent marker off a hard wood floor but i have taken it off of almost everything else. Just recently i used the eraser to take it off my linoleum floor and computer desk. Make sure the eraser is wet and with a little elbow grease it's off.
Melaleuca's Solumel will take it off. Check out my site at www.200Green.com/jhowell you can go to www.melaleuca.com and check out the Product Store and go to Sol-U-Mel using a product search. There is a video that you can click on and watch. This stuff is fantastic!!!
Rubbing alcohol will take sharpie off most services... I haven't tried wood floors but it shouldn't hurt them.
Have you tried a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?? These things are wonderful to keep on hand. I have not heard of them removing sharpie marker, but I do know that they remove kool-aid stains off of counters and crayon and marker artwork off of walls.... It's worth a try!!! Good Luck! D. A
I am not sure if it works on hardwood floors but when I get sharpie marker on my wooden desk at work I simply use a regular pencil eraser and it takes it right off - no problems - since both are wood - may work for you - hope so. D.
Magic Eraser always worked for me.
I have heard that vegetable shortening will take it off of some surfaces, but I don't know about hardwood. It took pen marks off of a babydoll that my 2 year old marked up. LEt me know if you try it and it works!
Have you tried the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? That seems to work on just about everything. You may also try a mixture of white vinagar and water.
Good luck!
M.
Mr. Clean Magic Sponge. It might take some muscle on your part but that thing IS magic. :)
I removed magic marker pen ink with a baby wipe and it worked, it will also remove stains from countertops. You might try that and see if it works.

Hi S.,
Amazingly, Dry Erase markers remove Sharpie permanent markers! I know it works on the Dry Erase Boards, on plastic Rubbermaid containers, my laminate counters and floors. I have not tried it on hardwood floors. When I first bought my BIG Dry Erase Board for homeschooling and my 3 year old took a Sharpie to it I was horrified. Then someone told me about the Dry Erase Markers removing it. Since then, she has used Sharpie's on many things around the house (including the Wipe Off Books, and it has removed them. Good luck! T.
2 words- magic eraser. that thing will take anything off!
Hmmm. . .. I would try Magic Eraser very gingerly. It will basically "sand" the floor, but I bet the marker would come off. If you're really careful, then I bet you could do it. L.
have you tried the Mr clean magic erasers?
This is going to sound silly but have you tried Mary Kay eye make-up remover? I used to sell MK and have found that their eye make-up remover works wonders on cleaning up marker while still being gentle on surfaces. A friend of mine used it to get marks off her wooden dining room chairs.
2 things to try - 1st, a baby wipe (I don't know why, but they somehow take out the most "mysterious" things). If that's unsuccessful, a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works WONDERS. Now - wear gloves and don't let your child play with/chew on it....there have been reports of "issues" from eating one....(imagine that)
Good Luck!!
