Teeth Coming in Late?

Well I seem to be a roll these days with the questions! Okay ladies, how long did it take for all of your little one's teeth to come in? Of my trio - 21 months old now, both girls have almost all of their chompers in - only the back molars are missing. My son, however, has only 8...7.5 really because number 8 is about 1/3 of the way out. We have not been to a dentist yet which kind of leads to my next question: At what age did you start taking your children to the dentist?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the advice. I'm a lot less worried now and have relaxed about his teeth. It's just so hard sometimes to pinpoint what's normal and what's not especially when there's three of them!

My daughter was a late teether as well. She didn't get her first tooth until she was 10 months old. She would then get two teeth at a time from then on out. I wouldn't be too worried, every child gets teeth at different times. I've heard some kids don't get their first tooth until they are a year.

My daughter just turned 1 in February and about a week before her birthday her first 2 teeth came in. I heard it is better if the teeth come in later. Our dentist also said to take her in to get a cleaning when she is 3.

My kids were very late teethers as well, they were both around 1 when they got their first teeth. I was too, so not a concern.

My dentist said to bring my daughter in for an appointment with me when she is around 3.5 and then have a regular check-up when she is about 4.

My boys were late teethers, but they were mostly caught up by 2. I listened to my dentist and didn't take my older son there until he was 3. I regret it now because he had major decay in a back tooth and had to have it filled when he was 3. Then, a year later, the filling came out. So, we are hoping this next filling stays in, but the dentist isn't hopeful. I brushed every day with him since he got teeth, but somehow this happened. So, with my other son, he will be 2 in a few weeks and I am taking him to a pediatric dentist as that is the only dentist I can find that will see him under 3 years of age. I know they can't do much at that age, but I think I will feel better if someone is looking at them more closely than was the case with my older son.

At the suggestion of our family dentist, when my son was 2 or so we started taking him along when my husband and I had appointments even though he didn't actually have an appt himself. The point was to start getting him used to the noises and sounds of the office so it wasn't scary when he had his first - for which I believe he was 3 1/2 or 4. Also for 1 or 2 of the visits before he started his own, after I was done, we had him sit in the chair and the hygenist just peeked inside and counted his teeth (kind of a trial run). It all worked great and the only problem he's ever had was taking too long to decide which flavor toothpaste he wanted.

As for when the teeth are coming in, my son also was a late teether and our dentist also concurred that it's better for them to come in later. As one of the other posts mentioned, if they get them in late, he will also loose them late, probably later than many of his friends. We, oops, 'the tooth fairy' just paid him a bit more since he had to wait longer than most.

My daughter didn't teethe until she was 1 yrs old. So don't get bent up on when they are coming...they'll all come in eventually!

My dentist recommended me to have my daughter come in when she turns 3.

I started taking my daughters around 2. Both my daughter's teeth came in late which meant that their adult teeth came in late also. Causes a little problem when all their friends are losng their teeth and they were not. I took my daughters with me to the dentist before having them go.
