I plan on taking a class for 5 weeks that meets every Sat. from 9-4:30 and I need ideas on childcare. I could send my 3 and 6 year old girls to my neighbors but I want something more. I want them to learn something or be active during this time. I know dance/gymnastics classes last nor more than 1 hour and a 1/2. Do you have any suggestions? Even if it is for 3 hours.

I think that is a tough one. If you live near a college/university/or community college they somtimes have a board where you can say your looking for a student to watch your children. I would look in their education department especially.

If you put an ad on craigslist I am sure that you will get plenty of responses. Most nannies will be able to teach them something or keep them active, I would think. Depending on where you live, one of the women from my kids daycare just started her own daycare and she is open to weekend work. She has watched my kids for us on the weekends. She is in the Galewood/Mont Clare area. If you are near there, send me a note and I can give you her contact information.

Good Luck,
D.

I bet a high school or college age kid would do lots of fun things with them in that time. You can contact area colleges or high schools or look on sittercity.com for names.

This last summer my niece worked for a family as a day nanny. She has her drivers license do she would take them to the different events and activities the children wanted to do, swimming, mini golf, etc. She really enjoyed the job. Now the kids are back in school so she is not needed but she has already been asked to return next summer before she heads off for college.
So consider getting a teenage girl in your neighborhood to work as a day nanny.

I would suggest putting an ad on sittercity for a nanny/babysitter so you can tell them what you would like them to do with your children. You can sign them up for an hour long class that she could drive them to or have her take them to museums, roller rinks, parks, etc. during the time you are in class.
