Taking Belly Button Ring Out When Pregnant?

My husband and I are in the process of trying to get pregnant for the first time. I have had my belly button ring pierced for 11 years and have never taken it out? I am wondering what to do with the ring? I'm not worried about it closing; I could care less if it closes. My concern is the hole stretching really big. Do you think leaving it in or taking it out would prevent this from happening? I'm not sure if it will even close since it's been pierced for 11 years. Any suggestions or personal experiences with it?

What can I do next?

I took mine out when I was about 5 months pregnant. The hole closed up fine. I couldn't get my out on my own so I went to a piercing/tattoo place for help. They told me to put vitamin e liquid on it to help it heal. It had been about 12 years when I had it out.

My belly was really growing at that point and the person told me that if I hadn't gotten it out is would have popped out through my skin because it was stretching so much with my belly. I'm really glad that didn't happen!

I took mine out before I got pregnant. But it did leave a hole and you can tell I had one. Everytime I went to get a sonagram they would say "you had a belly ring"

I didnt take mine out until I was pregnant with my third. And even then I made it to about eight months. I got so big with my last though, I am sure had i left it in...It would have come out through the skin on its own. I did not get it back into my belly right away after delivery so it was hard to get back in. I did get it in after, it was just itchy and painful. The hole had stayed there up until I had surgery the beginning of April. they made an incision right in the hole..so now it is gone:(

If it doesnt bother you...keep it in.It cant hurt anything. The hole shouldnt stretch...but I am not a professional to make that 100% right statement. Through 3 pregnancies though my hole didnt stretch. So that would make me believe it wont.

I had one when I got pregnant and it didn't bother me at first. Around 5 months when my belly started growong it hurt! I couldn't get yhe ball to come loose so my husband cut it in half with wire cutters. It sucked! I have a small scar from it now but I wouldn't get it pierced again anyhow! No one woul want to see that! My sister kept hers in her whole pregnancy.

I've had mine pierced for almost 15 years now and haven't had any problems with the hole stretching during either of my pregnancies. I kept my ring in until about 6 months or so, whenever it got uncomfortable, then switched to a plastic maternity barbell. Much mire comfortable and they come really long and can be cut to whatever size you need. Good luck with trying to conceive!

I kept my belly ring (bar not hoop) in my entire pregnancy :-) Same ring.....until i was 8 months and Had to get a Bigger (longer) bar ! LOL
I was a quite a "sight" in the piercing shop !!! HAHAHA
While he was changing the rings out the baby was kicking up a storm! The guy was super professional and never said anything. I wonder if it creeped him out! LMAO
That stayed in until, after 3 hours of Pushing, I Had to have a C-section :-(
thats the only reason I had to take it out and then when i was back in my own room, I put it back in. I had mine for 8 years prior and still have my Original one back in to this day :-) Good luck w/ getting preggers !!!! xoxoxo

I left mine in through my entire pregnancy, emergency C-Section, and subsequent surgery for complications.

Nothing stretched and all my Docs were fine with it staying in.

I had mine about 6 years and took it out when I had to while pregnant, about 7.5 months. I think if I left it in it would have stretched or ripped, I took it out before any pain or anything.
The hole did close but I didn't put it back in immediately and probably good have.
It didn't stretch and I have a small visible hole.
I left it in for a great Halloween costume, fun stuff!

My sister is super thin and she left her's in most of her pregnancy and it left a huge scar on her belly, not just a hole. I think it depends on how much you can grow. She really didn't have room to grow, so I think it stretched out a lot. Just something to think about.

I don't know if this is true or not, as I chose to believe that it is true and removed my belly button piercing when I found out I was pregnant. I heard that as your belly grows the pierced skin will stretch and eventually rip. My hole did not close and I have now had my piercing out for almost 4yrs. good luck

I left my ring in for my first two pregnancies (against my Dr.'s advice). Not only do I now have a 1/2 inch scar, but I almost ripped it out when closing a door. Ow!!!
I realize now that I wasn't missing anything by taking it out; I wish I had done it sooner! Hope this helps.

I had had my belly ring for many years. Took it out and it closed during my pregnancy. If you want it to stay open then you will want to put a pregnancy ring in or a loop of fishing line. To change just bend the ring sideways (pull top left and bottom right).

I took mine out at about 3 months with both my sons, and after they were born, it went right back to normal and I was able to put it back in. Like everything else, the peircing area will stretch to large proportions while pregnant, but it will all go back to norm! :)

I had a surgery before getting pregnant and they went in through just above my belly button, so I had to take it out. I decided to keep it out as we were hoping to get pregnant soon--11 months later we finally did. My belly button ended up totally flat (you could see the slight change in coloration of the inner part of my belly button but it was perfectly smooth with the rest of my belly). I think I made the right change for me. Plus, I was in my thirties by that point and my belly isn't what it once was and the hole closed pretty quickly. It was a really tough adjustment though as I'd had it 10 years and it felt like part of me was missing to not have it there anymore. I still have it because I couldn't bear to part with it (it's just a bent piece of surgical steel as I got it done before there was much in the way of body jewelry, but it was with me for a very important decade). Now all I have is that piece of metal and a bit of hematite from where the ends met and a little dot of a scar above my belly button (probably one on the inside too--I don't remember and I got my belly button back--albeit a little stretched out--after the pregnancy).

I had mine pierced and didn't take it out until I was about four months pregnant. It stretched and doesn't look so pretty. I think I should've let it "heal" before I got bigger.

A friend of mine was pregnant with a belly button ring. She put a plastic one in for the delivery. Nothing really exciting about it I guess.

When pregnant with my twins, I kept the ring in as long as I could, which was about seven months. I did keep my hole open, and mine never really stretched out big. Now I'm eight months pregnant and just took the ring out about three weeks ago. The hole still looks fine. I don't know if it's like this because I did keep the ring in or not.

They make belly button rings for pregnant people :) You can get them at a piercing shop or search online if you don't want to lose it.
I had mine 12 years and ended up taking it out around 5 months pregnant. You don't even notice where it was now, but let me tell you your navel looks soooo different naked!! :)
I figured I got my belly button ring in my teens, and now that I'm a mom in my 30's it was time to let it go. Oh and I taped my belly button ring in my memory book, silly I know but I had that ring longer than I had my hubby, it was a big deal :)
