Taking 8 Month Old to Races

I took my little boy to a Monster Truck rally and used a combination of ear plugs and a hat that covered his ears. They make these earplugs made of wax and they form fit to the ear. You can find them at rite aid near the other ear plugs. I found mine next to the contact solution. I take one of the ear plugs and roll it up in my hands to warm it and make it plyable then split it in half and it is just the size for baby's ear.

Hello C., I would suggest getting the air plugs that look like the sponge ones but what they do is fit to the size you need try them for yourself and see what happens. they are in expensive.or just put a quick call in to your pediatrician. an ounce of prevention is better than nothing at all. good luck finding what you need.what a good mother you are to find a solution for your little one. you would be surprized at how many don't think that the loud cars won't hurt a childs ear's~lisaB~

Silly putty might get stuck in her ears. I would try getting a small size of those ear muffs like the kind people wear when they go shooting. I see kids with them on all the time at monster truck shows and the like. Good luck and have fun!

I think they're around $15-$30 and adjustable for up to 6 years old. So, a pretty good investment to protect your daughter's hearing.

This reminded me of a picture I saw in a magazine of Gwyneth Paltrow's little girl Apple at a concert when she was one, and she was wearing a type of noise-reducing headphones. The races can be loud even for adults, and there's no secret about our nation's rates of hearing loss due to overexposure to loud noises. I'd be even more worried about a baby! I wouldn't use silly putty personally I'd be worried about it getting stuck or pieces falling into the ear. I'm sure there are ear plugs for kids, they usually make them for swimming. Or check with her pediatrician for their recommendation. I tried to find out about the headphones Gwyneth used but couldn't, but here is an article and the picture. Hope this helps!

You can get silicone putty (you just break off and shape the right size piece) at most drug stores (my daughter had tubes in her ears) and there are various sizes of foam plugs. You do need to protect her hearing. I'm not sure if the ones designed to keep water out of ears provide enough of a sound barrier. Maybe you should call a medical supply store or her pediatrician for suggestions.

She will probably be fine without. I took my son once when he was 6 months old and he fell asleep. I honestly still can't believe it but I have pictures to prove it :-)

I believe there is baby ear plugs...they are mostly used for keeping the water out when babies/toddlers have had tubes put into the ears. I think you might be able to find them in the stores like Target, Wal-mart and such. Good luck. I hope that this may help.

We took our son to the monster truck show when he was younger- he is 22 months old now- and I used those ear plugs for swimming! He never even bothered with them once my husband and I got them in there... We didn't even attempt to put them in his ears until right before the show, and loudness began, that way he could still hear us talking and wasn't confused about why he couldn't hear the way he normally can. The trucks came out and he was distracted enough not to notice the ear plugs in his ears, and he was amazed by it all! Hope that helps.

I've seen other small children, and babies wearing headphones either under or over hats at concerts I have been to. I would imagine that a pair of earmuffs would block out most of the loud noises as well.

I would find some kind of ear plug and try to find a headset, I think thats what they are called.

I haven't been to the races in over 10 years, but I remember that as a teenager, I would wear earplugs, as it can get loud. I take my 16 month old to my fiances concerts very often and it is sometimes loud and sometimes not. I use wax earplugs made for kids. They are made for water and sound and they have them at Target for around $4. Then, I got a small size headset,some people wear them when doing yard work, and I put that on top for added protection. When he doesn't want to wear the headset or it quiets down, he still has the earplugs in. Also, the earplugs are bright orange so I notice right away if one fell out, he took it out, or is about to eat one...Good luck and I say better safe then sorry. Might as well bring what you can along and see what you need when you are there.
