Hi J.
My 2-1/2 yr old son,Preston, is starting his 3rd (&final) 10 wk session at The Swim Academy in Boynton ###-###-####)& he now swims under the water by himself for about 20 ft. He is now being taught to use his arms, he can float on him back and then flip and swim to side/stairs/ladder. He dives for diving sticks. It's really remarkable, exp when he took swim as an infant at the YMCA & really learned nothing, plus he was very fearful of the pool.
I know Boca Swim has another facility in Boca ###-###-####), they are expensive but basically guarantee your child will swim in 2-3 sessions. Lessons for children under 3 are private 1-1 lessons. The instructors are great.Good Luck to you

Hi J.,
I teach drowning prevention and swimming lessons from Boynton to Boca. If you have time, go to www.infantswim.com. Best of luck!

Hi J.! Like another mother, I took my son to the regular swim lessons at the Boca YMCA, where he didnt learn how to swim, but they never advertised it as a swim class, it was more to make them feel comfortable with the water. He is now enrolled in a program called Safe Start at the Boca YMCA. Its done through Infant Swim Resource, which is the same as a previous mom left advice for offering a course through her. ISR is definately the way to go! it teaches them to float-swim-float, basically for drowning prevention and also to learn how to swim. My son has had remarkable improvement even after just 2 weeks. The lessons are every day and last only about 10 minutes for about 5 to 6 weeks. The website is very informative, it's www.infantswim.com and if you dont have a pool of your own to have the lessons in and your interested, contact Nicole Leno at the Boca YMCA and tell her K. J. referred you. Her email address is ____@____.com Hope this helps!!
We're REALLY lucky here in Boca/Delray. Most parts of the country don't have much besides the Y, and they are not allowed to teach infants to swim. (Nothing against them: We've been in their program during our school's winter off-season, in order to keep our oldest water-safe, and from a price-point, I'd highly recommend the Boca facility for a child older than 3).
We use LifeStyle Swim School (www.babyswimming.com) at the FAU Aquatics Center. Our 1 yr old is coming along really well (can get to the wall and "monkey-walk" to the ladder to get out and our older son (just turned 4) can swim an olympic lap and recover things from 6'. You can check out Bob & Kathy's book, "Learn to Swim" at B&N or Borders (it's also on Amazon if you feel like purchasing http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Swim-Childcare-Rob-McKay/dp/1... )
InfantSwim (recommended by another mom here)is fantastic. We have a couple of friends who have used their methods on their children (their "backfloat" saved one of the toddlers just a few months after he started the program.
I don't know the Boynton Swim Academy; it sounds like a siimilar method to that taught by the infantswim folks, but since it was recommended, I would check all 3 out (+ any others that sound promising) and decide which you like the feel of.

they can also come to your home for private lessons.
We currenlty have our two year old enrolled in the tadpole class and she is doing GREAT.
Have you tried the YMCA? They offer great swim classes for very little money. Good luck.
