Has anyone used the Love to Swim School? If so, I'm wondering about your experience there. I'm thinking about enrolling my almost 3 year old daughter in some swim lessons. She's starting to be afraid of getting water in her face. I'm wanting to get her going before she really gets scared of the water.

Thank you!
B.

We just started this year. My 5yo and my 2 1/2 yo are attending. We absolutely love it. Their instructors are highly trained and I think they have the best program for learning water safety and swim technique. The owner takes pride in having the best. She will not stand for mistakes by her coaches. My oldest took lessons from our gym and it was nothing like LTS. I think he is definitely getting the type of instruction he needs to be safe and efficient in the water. My little one and I are in the Baby and Me class. It is done with songs and games and activities are done in a circut. Everything is done to the comfort of your child. You do not force them to do anything. It is mostly just getting used to the water and learning to be safe. I can't say enough good things about LTS, especially after trying a couple of other places. You should give them a call or go visit. They will let you watch through the window.

I don't know about Love to Swim. But, I would recommend that you research "Infant Swimming Resource" (www.infantswim.com)before finalizing your decision. My 23-month old daughter is currently taking lessons and it has been a great experience. The kind where I know if she falls in the water, she can save herself, as well as have fun safely in the water. Don't be deceived by the 'infant' title...they instruct children ages 6 months to 6 years.
Good luck!

We just started this summer with my 2 1/2 yr old daughter. She LOVES LOVES LOVES it. She is a little water bug though. I enrolled her because I want her to learn to swim...but also about water saftey. My husband is actually the one doing the class with her...and I watch from the windows. He said everything is based around a song so it makes it fun for the children. They also use a lot of toys to distract them. For example, the teacher take a bucket of balls under water...and when the babies go under and pop up...all the balls pop up and they have to grab as many as they can...as fast as they can. That helps to distract them so they are not upset about being dunked under water.

As far as the swim diapers go...they are not the USUAL swim diapers that kids wear all the time. They are special washable ones that you have to buy. They sell them there...but they are also at Target. And, just this weekend, Babies-R-Us had them on clearance when I was there. It is funny that the previous poster said she didn't want to force her daughter back in a diaper...because mine is the opposite. She is a little freaked out that she doesn't have a swim diaper on. It looks just like a little bikini bottom...just a little bulkier...and she thinks she isn't wearing a diaper. Every time we pack for class she makes me pack a swim diaper...and then we "argue" in the changing room about her NOT wearing it! :)

I totally recommend them. My co-worker has a 6 year old who goes to...and she loves it. She was the one who recommended the place to me!

Hi B.,
I just want to let you know that they were great for my son. We first started out by mommy and me swim classes. Which initially I thought was odd, but now it makes sense. In the beginning my son was afraid to enter the water !!! The coaches are very patient and loving , so through play and song we have graduated from a child that wanted nothing do do with water , to a child that you have to convince to get out of the water, now . He swims , dives , floats on his back , and goes down the big slides with no fear. I strongly suggest Love to swim.

Best of luck

I looked into it a while back for my 3yr old. We never took her because they force all children to wear swim diapers until their 4th birthday! My DD has been totally potty trained since before she was 2 1/2! I couldn't tell her to put on a diaper now.
I freaked out at the start of the swim season when DD was afraid to swim.
We just put a life jacket on her, carried her into the middle of the pool. I went under water and left her on top. When I popped back up, she was laughing and swimming around all by herself. Problems solved. I figure she is too young to swim without a life jacket just yet, so we will cross that bridge when it comes. Good luck.
