This year for Christmas my husband & I & his two sisters are surprising my in-laws with airline tickets... we have set an amount for the part that we will be paying. But now I am just trying to figure out a unique, fun, creative way to present it to them on christmas morning. I had thought about all three of us each giving them something small that resembles something travel like & then when they are confused by the gifts we will present them with the gift certificate that I designed. But I am really looking for some other input from you all! Thanks in advance!! Happy Holidays!!

What can I do next?

Do you have any younger girls in the family? Because you could buy a barbie or bratz airplane, the ones that are big enough to hold the dolls, and put them in there. That way, when they're done opening them, they'll have a super cool toy at their house for the girls to play with when they come over.

Get them some trsvel sized toiletries they will need since they will not be allowed to take large bottles with them. Maybe a cute little bag to keep them in.Also since there is time get a map of the area they are going and if there is a show they might want to see or musuem get tickets in advanse. Open each item then the biggie. If they don't get a kick out of it then they aren't worth the trouble. It just depends how much more you want to spend.

My mother in law made a big Huge really deal once she wanted a basic cotton quilted house coat to wear at night. Well If the city of Cincinnati didn't have it at any cost it's not made anymore. I couldn't make one because I could not find quilted cotton at the time either in fabric stores. Well long story short I saw a silk quilted embroidered house coat at 3 times more than I have ever paid for anything for myself. The husband said to get it. She hated it. HATED IT, It wasn't what she wanted and she made sure I knew it. Needless to say we have a very strained relaionship ever since. I don't even try anymore.

Put them in a toy plane. Or fold the gift certificate into a paper airplane shape, and fly it toward them. You could still give the small travel-related gifts if you wanted.

They are lucky to have kids like you guys!

What about, wrapping boxes really fancy, and putting them inside one another. Small to big. And the last small box has the tickets in them. We did that one year with my mom, and the anticipation, was alot of fun for everyone.

Does your son have a toy airplane that is big enough to hide the tickets in? If so, maybe you could put the tickets in there and have your son give grandma and grandpa the plane.

We did this once for our parents. We had them go around the house on a 'Treasure Hunt.' We made up cute little clues and each written clue led to another and another, with the final one leading to a small gift relating to the trip with the tickets inside of it. It was fun and the family still talks about this after over 10 years.

Maybe each of you can give a trip related gift with a "piece of the puzzle". cut your certificate into three or more "puzzle pieces" and include them with each little gift. When they have opened them all, they can figure out the puzzle! All others are great ideas too! They'll have fun no matter what.

I was given a beach bag with sun screen, beach towels, sun glasses and the tickets all in the bag. It was very cute!

Don't forget to use the dining table too! You can tape it under a chair, under a plate, put under a placemat, insert in a napkin or something like that, too!

I like the toy airplane idea, but here is one in case you and your family are into scrapbooking: buy her a scrapbook and the stickers and paraphenalia that would be involved with scrapbooking the trip you buy them, and also buy maybe a disposable camera or film or a memory card if they have a permanent camera, and then on the first page of the scrapbook, with removable tape, stick the tickets in there with a little message to them! good luck!

I suppose you could present the presents as either useful or rather goofy. A couple years ago my mother wanted some animated character slippers. I couldn't find them... looked all over. I found the most ridiculous slippers I could. It was really a gag gift to say at least I tried, and then I left a note that if she could find the right ones I would buy them. Well, it turns out she absolutely loved them and she still has the darn things. Her cat has chewed off part of the characters face, but she still wears the ugly things.

So... maybe make it something funny and silly... and then surprise them. Everybody loves a good laugh. It could be some ridiculous summer sandles you find on clearance somewhere, a little umbrella from a drink on the wrapping paper, a straw skirt, etc. I might go to the dollar store and just pick up a few things that were cheap. If it was a romantic getaway, maybe get her a candle, scented massage oil and bath beads. Good luck!

How about buying a toy airplane and wrapping it up for them? Have them open that last after the other travel related gifts, because they will probably figure it out after opening a toy plane!
