Hi all,

I am having trouble coming up with an idea for my MIL, hubby is no help. She is going on a cruise with my sister & mother in June to Italy so I was thinking of tying into that but can't think of anything so far (she is borrowing books from my mom & sis). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
C.

C.,
I sell MaryKay Cosmetics and I have some terrific gifts reasonably priced and packaged for Mothers Day. More specifically, I have some products and gift ideas for travelers and anything can be customized! I live in the Deer Park area and would be willing to meet with you if you are interested. And just so you know I am not looking to recruit anyone for consultants, but rather I sell/share the products with family and friends because they are great products and again reasonably priced. If interested, please call my cell ###-###-####. Thanks S.

Maybe a nice leather-bound photo album along with a gift certificate to Wolf (or whatever photo processing you like) to have her vacation photos printed.

Hi C.,

To tie in with the travel theme, maybe a nice toiletry bag or set is something she would like. They have them everywhere, and actually Target has some really cute ones that are moderately priced. And if she journals, maybe a travel journal and/or photo album specifically for this trip is something she would appreciate. Sounds like a great time; wish I was going! Good luck!

you could get her a basket of travel sized toothpaste, toothbrush, little things like that. You can get all that stuff from walmart. You could get her little headphones cause im sure they will have movies on the plane. you could get her a few pens and some activity books.

I don't remember what this gadget was called - I just know it was helpful yeeeeeaaaars ago, when I went to Europe. It allows you to plug in your own hair dryer, curling iron, cell charger, etc into their outlets. Maybe their outlets have changed, but I remember their outlets were not like ours (vertical and parallel). If you don't have it, you can't plug anything in, that was made in America.

I'm probably not making any sense so I suggest speaking with a travel agent. They'll know what I'm talking about. I believe this would be a nice item to add to your list of travel things to get her.

A flowering plant is always nice. Then everytime she waters it, prunes it, etc., she will be reminded of her nice mother's day.

Maybe you can buy her a gift card to the cruise ship spa. I'm sure they could have the gift card delivered to her upon embarking. That would be a nice treat!

Put all or some of these items in a basket, or better yet a boot (since Italy is shaped as one...can go to a thrift shop or antique store for a cheap pair of boots and just use one):

A leather passport cover
Italian money (you can convert money at many banks)
Bottle of Italian wine
pasta and pasta sauce

you get the idea. Good luck!

Hi C.,

I would have to say American Express travelers checks may be a good idea since she is going to Italy...;-) H.

Happy Mother's day to you!

Hi C.-

How about a care package for her trip? I'm sure she would love it and appreciate it (I know I would!). Here are a few ideas: Film/batteries for her camera, sun screen, a travel journal, good snacks for the plane (like dried fruit, granola bars, something chocolate, etc), maybe a cool sun hat, Italian/English translation book, small travel alarm clock, melatonin (used for jet lag), sleep mask/slippers/toothbrush/toothpaste for plane (they don't seem to give these away much anymore), and if you're willing to spend a bit more possibly a travel dvd player with a movie like "Under the Tuscan Sun".

Good luck!
D.

This would be a lot of work for you by Sunday but if you got some "helper pages" - create a scrapbook for her for her trip and then leave the areas where she just has to post her pictures. Or maybe a nice passport wallet - Red Envelope has some great ones. Good luck!
