CHADD is a national organization. Here is a recent email notice about a local meeting:

Tuesday March 18th: Understanding IEP'S and 504 Plans:

With Attorney Jeannette Cohen: Does your ADHD child need help in school? Will classroom accommodations be enough or does your child need more? Have you been told that your child doesn't qualify for services? Are behavior issues interfering with your child's ability to learn? Find out who qualifies for IEP's and 504 Plans and how the revised regulations may be affecting services for students who are
struggling in the classroom

Hi E.,

I am a single mom as well. I have three boys and my youngest who is 8 is borderline ADHD. His older cousin had severe ADHD and I assisted raising her when she was younger. My suggestion is if your child has been officially diangnosed with ADHD your pediatrician can recommend someone local. If it is behaviors and outbursts you are trying to help with, there is a counselor in woodinville who is fabulous. Jennifer Brown, MSW. She is young, full of life, understands ADHD and my son LOVES her! She helps the children redirect themselves and gain control. It's not immediate, however she assists these kids to take control of themselves and also can help moms and dads recognize environmental items that can increase the poor behaviors..yes, sometimes we supply foods or stimulus items that make it more difficult for our children to deal with ADHD without even knowing it. If Woodinville is too far for you, she can suggest a local counselor in your area who is qualified to deal with young ones and ADHD. She is also writing a book on the subject with another counselor. It's good stuff!

Good luck to you!

Hi E.,

Google CHADD, then click on whichever button you need to to "find your local chapter".

ADHD runs rampant in our family, and we're finally coming to peace with it and each other, so if you'd like to correspond personally I'd be glad to chat with you.

Good luck in your search,
D.
