I am struggling with anxiety and depression. I had heard about Lucinda Bassett's "Attacking Anxiety and Depression" tapes. Has anyone tried it? Has anyone heard anything about it? Good or Bad? Does it work? Has anyone tried herbal supplements? What works for you? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Try a spiritual route! God can help and wants to. It's so true. I was on quite a few anti-depressants, and still felt the bitter pain of depression. I felt worthless, tired, ugly, and ashamed. I was already attending church, but wasn't changing. So, I began attending a church in Arlington called Center Point. I learned basic principles that completely transformed my life. I began going there because I wanted my kids to know God, but during the year and a half of attending, I've grown into a great relationship with Him. Sure, he uses people like Lucinda Bassett to help people. Still, wouldn't it be better to get that healing from her Creator?! The One who gave her the insight?! I would think so and know so! Anyway, if you're skeptical and would rather not go that route, than I'll share a principal that has broken every self-loathing pattern in my life and that my friend is love. Without love we are nothing. Love you as you are, everything about you is perfect as is. You're smile, your tears, your dreams, your fears are all perfect. They complete you. So, DECIDE to love you with all your heart and work on being positive. It doesn't happen overnight, it's a process that you must actively work on one day at a time. Words of affirmation are always good to improve your mindset. Best wishes and it will get better, but it's up to you to make it happen!!!

My husband got the tapes at a very stressful time in his life and I being the happy go lucky person in our marriage said I would help him. I started the program with him and I was shocked, I think I was much more anxious and stressed than he was it just wasn't my persona to show my "STRESSED feelings." We found a lot of peace thru the program.
Lucinda was just a normal stressed out, anxious person that tried all the things people told her to do and then figured out a way that seems to be working for millions.
I think the tapes along with a visit to a doctor you trust would get you going in the right direction.
What's the saying - Don't sweat the small stuff and remember it's all small stuff!!!!

It is so funny that you mentioned this because I was at a class at church the other day and the lady sitting next to me mentioned that she used them! She has severe bipolar disorder along with anxiety and depression and she said these tapes have really helped her along with her medication.
Good luck!

I would recommend you get a doctor to check your thyroid. Low thyroid function can contribute significantly to depression and anxiety. Here's a good website with info:
http://thyroid.about.com/od/depressionanxiety/Depression_...

I don't know about those tapes, but I do know that getting on the right dosage of thyroid hormone has helped me tremendously. Some folks can boost their thyroid function by adding Iodine, selenium and b vitamins to their diet, BUT if your thyroid problem is auto-immune based, the Iodine may only aggravate the condition. That's why I recommend getting diagnosed first. Also, make sure the doctor doesn't just look at TSH and if they do that they use the new ranges. Also, you might want to look at the website: www.stopthethyroidmadness.com (many of the synthetic thyroid medications don't work for alot of people).

I have struggled w/anxiety and depression for many years. I actually use a medication that treats PMDD. It's called Sarafem and it has been a life saver! It does have a tiny amount of Prozac in it, but it is a medication that you do not have to take everyday and it takes effect immediately. Doesn't make me drowsy either. It also doesn't have a heavy sexual side effect, like some anti-depression/anxiety medication have. My ob/gyn prescribed it, but I am sure any Dr can too. Hope this helps.

Many people are pleased with Bach's Rescue Remedy for anxiety. Worth a try. A book that helped me out was The Miracle of Mind Power by Dan Custer...and I also believe in breathing, and balance exercise such as Tai Chi or Qi Gong...I haven't heard about the tapes but let us know if you try them.

You can beat this...but it is a daily task...I face it every day. But I am infinitely stronger each day I beat it. Every backslide feels terrible...but they are becoming fewer and shorter. I am committed to success. If you need help...please please get it.

I think everyone here is wanting you to achieve peace within.

You had asked about herbal supplements.
Here's the links to what I use (Purecalm and Mindsoothe) - once you go to the link you can read about each product:
Here's the links

http://www.nativeremedies.com/purecalm_for_anxiety3.shtml...
Scroll down and click the product Purecalm.

This is called Pure Calm and the first time I tried it I felt relaxed within 5 minutes. It was truly amazing to me. I also used it as recommended for 2-3 times per day for the first 3 weeks. And now I use it as needed.

Then I also use this in conjuction with Pure Calm-it's called Mindsoothe

http://www.nativeremedies.com/mindsoothe_for_depression.s...

Since starting these herbal supplements I feel so much more calm and peaceful and there aren't any side effects with these herbal supplements. Of course you should always consult your doctor for herbal supplements too.

Both of these herbal supplements helped me more than Paxil did. Paxil helped a little, but I did suffer from 2 of the most common side effects of most anti-depressants and that was weight gain and low sex drive. Both of these just add to a person feeling depressed.

I hope you feel better soon.

I don't know about L. Bassett's tapes. I'm in the process of reading Joyce Meyer's "Battlefield of the Mind" book. She's a Christian author and it has helped me tremendously. I've suffered from anxiety and slight depression for years. It actually got better when I was pregnant (I never took meds for it). Also, Pilates helped me a lot too. And prayer. Hope this helps.

Hi there! Sorry to hear about your struggles. My dh struggles with severe anxiety on a daily basis. He takes Paxil and Klonopin every day. It has helped him out a lot. I suggest seeing your doctor and having him/her dianose you, and suggest something to take while you're struggling with this. Anxiety/depression is an illness...just like any other illness, it should be handled professionally. Hang in there and God bless.
