Hi all,
I am 4 months pregnant and looking for a creme/lotion that would work on stretch marks that I am going to get due to pregnant belly.
Something that would have worked for you in the past.
Thanks in advance,
Mahima

I have used various things in my 4 pregnancies: massage oil, creamy baby oil, body cream, and now body butter from Bath & Body Works. I don't have any stretch marks on my stomach (just a few on my butt and breasts), but I think part of it is just genetics.

They say that stretch marks are genetic and if your mother got them you will too, no matter what you use. ( I think this is pessimistic!) I used Burt's Bees Mama Bees oil. I gained 30 lbs and got not a single mark!

I used plain vitamin E oil. It works wonders, not some expensive lotion you buy and don't like. You can use it for many purposes.

You can't see a couple of my scars due to faithful vitamin e oil. I never had stretch marks but I don't know if that is genetic or me faithfully caring for my skin.

Congratulations and happy pregnancy

I've heard everything from cocoa butter to olive oil to special stretch mark creams - I would recommend that if you start to get some stretch marks DO NOT scratch them!!! They will itch and pull and it might suck but try your best not to scratch them - use a lotion on them every night and really as often as you can - you can't use too much - I used cocoa butter - I still got some - a couple years later I can't really see them...if you do get any I would get some Mederma to use after the pregnancy to help get rid of the stretch marks (it works on any scar really) and it DOES seem to work - I've used it after surgery and it really makes them get lighter over time - it does take awhile - but, if it's something you don't want visible it's worth it...

I agree to not waste your money on expensive creams or lotions that cater to stretch marks. If you are gonna get stretch marks you will get them and no about of cream or lotion is going to help it, it is because of skin tightness and if you have a more elastic than tight skin that is a good indicator of whether or not you will have some stretch marks. I just used cocoa butter lotions mainly and would use baby oil right after a shower on occasion and I have no stretch marks probably because my skin is pretty elastic (currently preggo again and hopefully that will remain). Good luck with your pregnancy.

Not everyone gets stretch marks. I've had 2 kids and no stretch marks, my mom had 4 and didn't get any, so you may be worrying for nothing.

I used the Cocoa Butter lotion that you can get at Wal-Mart for the first few months, but switched to a more expensive lotion (Mustella) for the last half of my pregnancy. You can get Mustella at Babies R Us and at some maternity stores. Be sure to put it on your hips and booty as well........I didn't focus on those as much as I did my belly and I got a few stretch marks around my hip area.

Hope this helps!

At SAMS they sell this small bucket of YELLOW CREME it is VITAMIN E and COLLAGEN I used it on all my tummy 3 times a day, and when recovered from my huge C - Section on it and I am happy with the results.

At Walgreens or Wal Mart they sell the tummy butter but that was not efective on my skin..

If you have access to another called CICATRICURE it is wonderfull, but a bit more expensive. http://www.cicatricure.com.mx/Genomma_Cicatricure_Inicio....
This one I love, you can even put it around your eyes, whatever is left over from your bell not too much

Good Luck

I highly recommend the "little Yellow Stick". It's 100% pure cocoa butter in a stick form. Unfortunately we will never truly be able to get rid of our stretch marks, they are our battle scars and we should wear them proudly! However, I found with the Little Yellow Stick, my stretch marks went from angry red and highly noticeable, to very faint skin colored, and very unnoticeable! This product is not expensive at all and you can find it any any drug store. I get mine at Walgreens! I tried other creams that did not work at all. I tried cocoa butter oil, other coca butter lotions with no luck.

Good luck!

Hi MB,

Renew lotion is great along with melaleuca alternafolia oil. The oil actually absorbs deep into the tissue and will heal or prevent damage several layers down which is how stretch marks tear. Let me know if you want more information.

I used the Johnson's creamy Shea and Cocoa butter
http://www.johnsonsforyou.com/products_shc.jsp?id=1#spot

It used to come in a round jar but I think they repackaged it and now comes in a pump. I lotioned up twice a day and it helped with dry skin and itchiness. When I went to my checkups, the nurse was really impressed that I had no stretch marks with twins. It wasn;t until after I had the kids that I saw them. So I think you will get them depending on how much your belly gets big.

Your skin type, genetics (ask your mom & grandmother if they got them) and lifestyle before, during & after pregnancy determine whether you will get stretch marks, not how much lotion you apply . Keeping you skin well hydrated & moisturized is a good idea to help you skin health and perhaps minimize the size or number of mark, but it is no guaruntee. I went my whole pregnancy without any and then 3 weeks post partum several showed up around my hips. Also, the belly is not the only place people receive stretch marks; thighs, hips and breasts are also very common areas. After they come, if they do, then you can try to minimize their appearance by using lotions. Any oils that are close in make up to our natural body oils are the best. Believe it or not, but plain old olive oil is one of the best moisturizers around, next I would say coconut oil or butter. You may get lucky and not have any stretch marks at all!!

This is what I used: Lubriderm Skin Nourishing Moisturizing Lotion with Shea & Cocoa Butters. I gained about 30 pounds during my pregnancy. I don't have ANY stretch marks. I did try baby oil, baby gel, but I didn't like the oily feeling.

I don't know if the Lubriderm helped me in not getting any stretch marks, but just in case, I'm 4 months pregnant now and started to use it again...don't want to take any chances, it worked for me. Good luck!

I think the biggest factor is genetics. However, I used Burt's Bees Apricot baby oil. Only got a couple of them on the sides of my hips. I used it religiously. Don't stop for about 6 weeks after the baby is born either.

I used Bio-Oil & I didn't get any stretch marks. What I liked about it was that it wouldn't leave my skin oily. My skin would absorb it real quick. Its actually specialist in scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, aging skin & dehydrated skin. Just apply it after you shower all over your belly, hip & booty oh & your boobs as well. And I just had a baby 8 weeks ago and my skin still feels smooth. I got it at CVS. Good luck finding something! Wish you the best in your pregnancy :o)

I wouldn't waste your money on expensive creams. Stretch marks cannot be prevented by a lotion or cream, no matter what people try to tell/sell you. You can "help" the appearance of them by lotioning them up, but it won't prevent you from getting them.

Your skin type, heredity and lifestyle before and during pregnancy determine whether you will get stretch marks. After they come, if they even do, then you can try to minimize their appearance by using lotions. Or, if they really bother you, you can use surgical procedures to help. You may get lucky and not have any stretch marks at all!!

I used the Palmers Stretch Mark cream for my first ( gained about 25 lbs), but not on a regular basis, and even less frequently with my twin pregnancy( gained 50 lbs) and got no stretch marks. I do think genetics plays some part, but also luck.
