I quit cold turkey years ago, but a coworker of mine struggled and struggled. She tried EVERYTHING. Pills, hypnosis, cold turkey, etc. Nothing worked. She really wanted to quit, but couldn't get past the strong urge to smoke.

This last year she tried Auricular Therapy. It's pretty amazing. She went for one session and hasn't smoked since or even wanted to do so.

zyban is the other one that was used more commonly several years ago before chantix came out - a lot of insurance companies didn't cover it, so drs would write for welbutrin, which is the same drug, but is an anti-depressant and thus covered... your friend needs to talk to his dr and pharmacist about whether or not to continue on with the chantix or try something else.

Did he use the Chantix according to the prescription? My husband used it and he has been smoke-free for almost five years. According to the prescription, he could still smoke while using it the first week or so.

I have never smoked, but my mom, brother, and sis-in-law all did. They took Chantix, and it worked for them. Mom had to do it twice, but it works. The thing about it is that you keep smoking on it, the nicotine just doesn't do any good, so he didn't follow the directions and so no it didn't work. I would recommend it and think that he should try it again. Good luck and its admirable that you want to stop.

Actually currently the electonic cigarette is doing it for me, I smoke A LOT less since starting it and I still get what I "need" when I "need" it.
