Buy a fifth of inexpensive vodka and mix it with water (about 50-50)-put in spray bottle, spray the item, and voila-no more odor!
Wierd and annoying - pulled out some sweaters to wear since it's gotten cold, and noticed halfway through the day that "I" was stinky. ??? Checked the sweater when I got home and yuck! - Not from feet away, thank goodness. Now I washed them before putting them away. And just to be sure it wasn't me being super stinky, I checked my pajamas this morning and not stinky.
Any ideas on how to make this go away? I'm thinking vinegar, but wanted to check with others.
Thanks.
Thanks everyone, great ideas, it's just this one sweater, thank goodness. It was so weird.
Lol. We got a cold snap in Fort Worth that got into the 20's at night and low 50's in the afternoon, and I'm a wuss in the cold.

Spray N Wash. Spray thoroughly, let sit for an hour before washing.
Hang on the line on a sunny day. Sunlight is one of the best deodorizers, but winter clothes rarely get the chance.
As Rosebud says spray and wash, rub it in and let it sit, but regular detergent can also be used by pouring and rubbing it on the inside of the pits. Let it sit and then wash..
If hanging mothball-smelling clothes outside can get that smell out, I bet it can do the same for stinky pit clothes.
I throw my sweaters in the dryer on "fluff" with a dryer sheet. This helps get the "musty" smell out after being packed away all summer.
I can't wear certain fabrics. Even with deodorant on, the armpits just stink for some reason but when I take the shirt off I don't have B.O. but the shirt does. I find it happens mostly with synthetic materials. Cotton and pure wool I don't have issues with. Maybe try wearing a sleeved shirt underneath to create a barrier?
You are correct with the vinegar. It gets smells out. It's what I use when my little one wets the bed and when he threw up. It also gets the mildew smell out of towels. I would soak it in vinegar and water for a while. I also like Cheryl's suggestion for future wearings. I think I'll try that!
But, really, sweaters in Ft. Worth already? I grew up Austin and now I live in Michigan. I thought it was supposed to still be shorts weather there!
knits are the pits, aren't they? i have yet to find a deodorant that will allow me to wear a nice knit sweater for long!
preventative strategy- lightweight t-shirt under the sweater. the t-shirt catches the smelly perspiration and spares your good knitwear.
coping strategy- nothing is as good as old fashioned vinegar. for my knits i use a gentle detergent, a sprinkle of baking soda with it, and white vinegar in the rinse cycle. i NEVER use fabric softener with knits!

You might want to switch deodorants. You might have become immune too your current one.
