I take online classes at ctkce.org However, they are not for credit, just for fun. They do offer certificates for completion and are accepted for certain job requirements.

If anyone knows of a school that is online and accredited and not too expensive, I'd like to know too!

I took online classes last semester. My daughter was 5 months old when I began and everything went really well until the tail end when she was up and moving more. The classes I took were the simplest classes due to the fact I was worried about time. The last few weeks I was cutting it close but if it is something you want to do, do it. I had A's and B's all semester. I took 4 courses and did work during nap time and on the weekends until I started to work half-way through the semester. I only worked weekends but still had plenty of time to do course work during nap and in the evening when my husband was home. It is a really great idea! Good luck!

Hi A.,
Sorry for the late response, but I'm just catching up on my mamasource email. I haven't been on in awhile because I was studying online to earn my MBA. Well, today I graduated, and it's a great feeling. I'm a SAHM of three kids, ages 9, 7 and 5. I would not have been able to do it otherwise. In this crazy economy, an advanced degree is helpful when looking for a job. I did my coursework while the kids were in school, and at night, since I'm a night owl anyway. I had great communication with my classmates who were local, nationwide and worldwide. It's good to know that if I decide to travel, I could look up a classmate in the area and meet up. In fact, some local classmates and I will be celebrating our achievements and meeting for the very first time. It is challenging, but very rewarding. I graduated from AIU, and the coursework is hard work. We worked individually, as well as in groups. If you're considering online study, I urge you to go for it after you have researched the program and made sure it's accredited. AIU is on the expensive side, but they work out reasonable payment plans with you. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Yes, I did receive my Montessori Teaching Certification through online classes. I then decided to further my education later on and did online classes with University of Phoenix to get my BA in Education. University of Phoenix is pricey but it is fully accredited. Make sure any online courses you take are accredited otherwise you could not only be wasting your time but tons of money. Online worked for me because I wanted to work as well so I did the work at night on the weekends. For a stay at home mom it is a great idea. Good luck!!!

I took courses from the University of Connecticut for Gifted and Talented Teaching certification. The courses were amazing and I loved the connection with other students from around the country and around the world! I love live classes, but I was too far away from UConn to attend - I agree with the other poster that you must find a great college with high quality courses and perfect accredidation - otherwise you will walk away with nothing. One of the struggles for me was balancing home and course work. During my first course (I'd recommend only taking one at a time) I logged on to my class everyday - sometimes every hour to see if classmates had responded to my posts. I had to manage my time to log on only once a day after the kids were asleep. Most of my readings and writing projects were done on the weekends and during nap times. My second course came when I had just accepted a full time teaching position so I had 3 little ones, a new job and a new course - a LOT of work. I accessed the course only twice a week and did a tremendous amount of work for the class - but again I just loved the connection with my peers and the instructor. Take one class that you are interested in and let us know how it goes!

Although I"ve gone back to work (my kids are older now), when my kids were younger, I took many classes online - in fact I earned my masters degree without ever leaving my home computer! The online classes are great because you don't have to factor in travel time and babysitting costs. I did my school work when my girls went to bed. It was perfect for me. By the time I was ready to move on professionally, I did so with a better degree.
Many colleges now offer online courses, even for non-matriculated students. There is LOTS of conversation within the classes, which may be what you are looking for. You'll have a chance to challenge yourself and use your brain. I can say I honestly learned something from everyone of the classes I took.
Good luck!!

I take online classes and work full time. I took 5 classes last semester and did work in the evenings and on weekends. The number one thing to do is to make sure the school is accredited for your major. Secondly, take two or three classes initially to get a feel for it and make sure distance learning is appropriate for your learning style. Once you get the hang of it it can be great.

Good Luck

I was a SAHM and took on line classes. It was a great experience and something I did for myself everyday. My major was Veterinary technician so I was limited in the online classes but the "basics" I was able to do from home. I am in a position that I can't afford classes now but would be doing them if I could. Like someone said make sure you use an accredited program. I went throught the local comunnity college because that is where my hands on courses were going to be held. Good Luck and have fun!!! A.
