If any of you ladies out there have done or are doing FCC and have advice on anything please let me know. We are moving to Schweinfurt Germany from Wurzburg some time this summer(hopefully). I plan to start as soon as we get settled. I would've started here in wurzburg but we were told that we were going to move in January so I gave all of my stuff back and well we never moved and so the longer I sit around and think about it the more nervous I get. I have worked at the CDC so I am in no way new to the daycare scene or the army regs for child care. Just a little nervous about taking other peoples children into my home.

What can I do next?

Hi A., have you started your training? because if you have and if you didn't open your house to the public.( meaning you didn't start your business) then don't be surprised to do it all over again when you get to your new duty station. It happened to me. We were stationed in Ansbach and i did all the training and all i needed was for the fire department to inspect my home. well, my husband's unit was going back to the states and the FCC office stopped all the paperwork. Then I got to Hanau but i got pregnant and after i had my daughter, i tried to do it again and i was told that i needed to do my trainig all over again. Although i was told that all the training that i did, would follow me anywhere i went. so yes, i was so upset cause i already had the children that i was going to babysitt, but i couldn't do the training, i had no time.. but i am thinking about it since we are moving to Ktown. make sure to take with you all of your paperwork saying that you have comepleted your training if you already have. and don't let time go by too much either. I think i waited too long too. I wish you all the luck A.. It's great to have a job that you can do at home, specially if you have a little one at home and needs a little friend to play with. That's why i have been babysitting and i enjoy it.

Take care and good luck.

I'm about to start it here as we have a class in May..as soon as I get some info I'll let you know.. Our family child care coordinator is great she keeps everyone up to date with emails and calls and I'm not even in yet.. I too have done day care but not on base. I know there are a lot of hoops but I think it will be worth it.

I did it a couple of years. Go for it! I found the kids and parents (most) a great experience and addition to my family. I got out because I found the FCC workers too opinionated about my household over minor issues. I found there was no one time I was attacked to the point of stopping up instead felt constantly attacked in minor ways until one next small attack made me stop. If you are good at letting the small stuff roll off your sholders and ignore it then that will benefit you. I bet you will like the experience.

Let me know when you open up and where you are at! Starting in Sept. I might need an FCC provider to pick up my 6 yr old daughter from German school (and maybe drop her off there in the morning, depending on what kind of hours I will be working!) the school is about 2 miles off Ledward (where the PX is at!)
Kind of hard to find a FCC provider in Schweinfurt period, even harder to findsomebody willing to pick up the kid....

Hello A. G. my name is J. S. and we are moving to Schweinfurt in May 2008. I am an FCC provider and I was also a provider in Wurzburg in 2000-2002. I am thinking about becoming a provider in Schweinfurt also, but depends on where we will live...Please email me at ____@____.com --I can answer any questions you have about FCC. The hard part of opening up is (once you get your training) its the opening of your home, but once you get open...and you can be organized with your contracts, you are good to go. Training probably lasts a week long...FCC will reimburse childcare fees (for your children during this time) either with CYS or another FCC provider. Then after you open, you'll have correspondance courses throughout the first year you open. I definitely know that Schweinfurt area is in desperate need of FCC providers...GOOD LUCK!!
