We are currently using the Funtainer water bottles and at least once a week someone comes home with a soggy backpack. I know sometimes they forget to close the lid and it leaks in their lunchbox. Other times the button somehow gets pressed while in their backpack or lunchbox and we have a leaky mess. Can someone please recommend a good leak proof stainless steel water bottle that will fit in a lunchbox and is easy for a kinder to open and close?
For a child that young, water bottles are nice for field trips and camp and stuff like that, but for just sipping water at lunch on a normal day why not just send an empty cup to fill at the water fountain?
I just bought myself a Swell bottle on sale for Christmas. It hasn't leaked and it goes upside down in my bag. Mind you, I make sure the screw top is done all the way.
They do make little kid ones called Sips I think - may just have screw on lids - but once on, they're leakproof. Pricey but insulated.
My kids just take plastic reusable bottles - and don't have issues. I can check the brand when they're home if you're open to plastic.
i don't think any water container will work if if they forget to close the lid.
i think you need to start by working with your kids on handling their water bottles appropriately.

I tend to use a plastic water bottle with a screw top that I keep refilling.
For kindergarten - they often like the juice boxes/bags and they get the hang of opening them with the little straw fairly quickly.
Send your kids to school with an empty water bottle and they can fill it up there, either at the fountain or some schools have filtered water filling stations. Then remind them to empty out what they don't drink before sticking it in their backpack so it doesn't leak. If they like really cold water put only a few ice cubes in there in the morning.
