Hi C.,
I also live in an apartment. I swear by the Magic Easer sponges. They are great and even take out kool-aid stains. Try them.
C.
I live in an apartment building, and there is a stain on the countertop, I need some advice to know if there is a way to get it out!
What happened is that there was a red piece of contruction paper on the countertop (one of my daughter's pieces of artwork from daycare!). Well at some point, someone spilled something on the countertop, and it was not cleaned up right away. I was cleaning the kitchen this morning, and found the mess! And where the contruction paper got wet, there is a pink stain on the countertop! Can anything be done to get the stain to go away?
P.S. I don't know anything about countertops to tell you what kind it is...whatever kind they put in apartment buildings!
THANK YOU very much Mamasource members! First I tried the vinegar. It helped, but did not completely take the stain away. I was about to leave to go to the store to buy the Magic Eraser, when I decided to try the liquid dishwasher detergent. It WORKED WONDERFUL! Now I am using it to get rid of all the other faint stains I have, plus I'm trying it on the Sharpie stain my daughter colored on our table. :-)

C.,
I've had the same happen to me. I used Mr. Clean sponges and it works like magic.
Good luck!

Try a Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean. They work GREAT on any stains. You can even buy a cheaper version of the product at Walmart if you are looking for a discounted product.
I use them on my counter, sink, stove, bathroom, they even work great on getting crayon and pen off the walls.
Good Luck!
according to "Helpful hints from Heloise" use dishwasher detergent (liquid kind not powder) pour on spot take cloth wet it put over area need cleaning leave for a few hours then wipe clean....I have used this and gotten PERMANENT MARKER out of my table, I've used it to get red kool-aid,grape juice, coffee stains and tea stains off my counter tops. IMO its the best thing to remove stains from any hard surface.....
Soft Scrub with Bleach usually works and shouldn't harm the countertop.
it is most likely a laminate countertop.....
soak a papertowel in chlorine bleach and let it sit on the stain for 10 minutes. If it needs a second treatment, repeat.

Try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser--but be careful it can dull the finish sometimes. Good Luck!
I use the Magic Eraser. It works wonders. I haved used it when I spilled red jello on the counter and it took that out without a problem. Just make sure you rinse it off when done or it will leave a dull residue on the counter. Good luck!
I saw in your update to your question - you were going to try it on the sharpie on the table. Also try baby oil or something oil based for hte sharpie. My daughter drew on herself with sharpie last weekend we used baby oil and it came right off. She had a little faint line left but it came off as soon as we gave her a bath. Good luck
Definitely bleach. This will take the stain right out if it's formica.

Super easy! Just use a magic eraser (in the cleaning aisle for about $2) and just about anything will come off - be careful when using on paint though.
I swear by the Mr. Clean magic eraser! I had a pen mark on my leather couch that wasn't noticed right away and the Magic Eraser took the stain right out. I also had some Kool-Aid on my countertop that, again, wasn't noticed until about 10 hours after the fact and it did the trick. Hope this helps!!
Put vinegar on it and let it sit - soak a rag and place on stain, then use a magic eraser asap.
I just got rid a similar stain using liquid comet with bleach. No more red stain. Good luck.
Hi- I use "Barkeepers Friend" on my sink, counters etc... It's great at removing stains! Let me know if you need to know where to get it. It's in a container similar to Comet and inexpensive.
Good luck.

Try plastic boost It works awesome! made to take stains out of tupperware but works on all kinds surfaces as well!~ Just put a little on your counter wait a couple hours and wipe it off I buy it at meijer by the diswasher cleanser it's about $3.
C., have you tried COMET yet? We occasionally get popsicle stains and newspaper ink stains on our counter top and this always seems to work great for that...I would give it a try. It's fairly inexpensive for a can of it. Just shake some of the "powder" on a dry countertop, and take a wet scrubber-sponge and scrub the stain away. Hope this helps!!
Have you tried the Mr Clean Magic Eraser? I find that with a little elbow grease, stains come off my countertop amazingly well when using it.
If your countertop is a light color, I would recommend Lysol Antibacterial Spray with Bleach or Soft Scrub with Bleach. Spray or run a little into the spot and then let it sit for a moment. Both of these products work well on my countertops.
Good luck.

Use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It'll come right out!
I have formica and soft scrub with bleach takes out stains really well!
Hi
The best spot remover that I have found is Nature Bright made by Shaklee. This works miracles on fabric. While I cannot guarantee anything, I think if you made a paste of water and Nature Bright (it comes as a powder) and let it sit on the stain for awhile, I bet it would come out. This product really works better than Oxyclean. You can check out my Mamasource business 'M. Goes Green' or my website www.shaklee.net/marilynmalvey. All of the Shaklee products are natural, non-chemical and Earth Friendly.
Good luck on that stain!
softscrub takes those types of stains off...in the cleaning section of any store
I have a white countertop in my kitchen whenever I get a kool-aid stain or any kind of juice stain, I use Clorox bleach. Just pour the bleach on the stains and let it sit for maybe 10-15 minutes and the stain will come out.
Try Clorox Clean-up, it has gotten every stain out of my countertop. Even the ink from the bread packaging. If that doesn't work, Mr. Clean Erasers are my other favorite.
Good luck, you certainly don't want that to come out of your security deposit.
Hands down......Krud Kutter at Lowes. In a red and white bottle for about $6 dollars a gallon is $11 and so worth it. It takes out everything from red wine in my taupe colored carpet. Swear that happened!!!! Also it took out candle wax in my suede couch. It also takes out tree sap and blood stains and everything. It's also non toxic and bio degradable. You also can use it on your laundry. Read the back of the bottle !!
Soft scrub w/bleach should do it. :)
Lysol foaming cleaner, probably a disinfectant as well. I have a bottle at work, and it has gotten everything out EXCEPT the black permanent marker on my metal file drawer. It has gotten a lot off my desk top at work - they use the cubicle desks that are very much like a counter top. My husband, the stay at home dad, suggests bleach - let it set there for a little while and then try wiping it up.
Believe it or not those Magic erasers are really magic. I have a 2 year old and she got a hold of a permanent marker and wrote on my table. My mom brought me one saying it would do the trick. I didn't believe it would actually work, cuz it's just a sponge, but it did and I use it on everything now. Its great not having to worry about my daughter using her crans or even markers anymore :)
Try some oxy clean foam pray or just regular oxy clean it works like a charm. Also you might want to try some windex....that stuff works on lots of stains for me...lol.
C., Mr. Clean, Magic sponge, get almost anything off, with no side effects! I clean apts. it is Magic! Kath
The Magic eraser works great! or try some soft scrub with bleach! They are both great!
C.,
I know you were able to remove the stain from your counter top, but if at some point it happens again you can always try a paste made from baking soda and water. It removes stains from everything, rust from good china, food coloring from tile or counter tops, pen marks from the walls, etc.
I got this idea from an old copy of Heloise's Hints and I love it because it is so inexpensive.
Have a great day!
If it is formica, you could use just plain old Comet. Wet it, pour a bit on and let it sit a few minutes, then scrub. Usually you can't hurt formica.
I wonder if the Mr Clean magic eraser would work on that. Those things are AMAZING!
The absolutely best thing to get stains out of countertops is dishwasher gel! Cascade or whatever, it has enough bleach in it to get the stain out and is just a tiny bit abrasive but not enough to scratch your countertop. I use it for cooked-on spots on my stovetop that I just cannot scrub off, too!
Clorox cleanup..that stuff has taken away kool aid from my countertops, good luck.
Hi! Try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser white sponge. It is mostly likely a formica countertop. It won't hurt to try the sponge and you can pick them up at the grocery store.
you didnt say what kind of countertop but have you tried magic eraser?
Try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. They are GREAT! That is what I use on everything. I have used it before for a similar situation only it was a blue streamer that leaked ink. It took it off with no problem and they don't cost much- just a couple bucks. I ALWAYS have one on hand. Good luck!
C.,
I work from home for a Health and Wellness company and we have safer for your home products and I might have something that will help. It is called Tub in Tile and also Sol u mel no chemicals in these products. IF you are interested in trying these products please call me. I live in Onaway and I would be more than happy to meet with you.

my husband does this once a week. I have white laminate. I usually let some 409 or bleach sit on the stain. Be careful with the bleach. I have also used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. You could try good ole, Comet but it can cause some scratches.
I have used a mixture of half bleach and half water to clean my formica countertops for 40 years now and they always look sparkling clean after washed. This takes out coffee stains, Kool-Aid stains and stains from colored papers that have leached onto the countertop. Just be sure to wear old clothes when cleaning the countertops with this mixture as it will also bleach your clothes and cleaning rags.

depends on the type of counter...I use clorox on my formica counters and it gets rust and food coloring out really well. If you have stone barkeepers friend works really well. Good luck
soft scrub should do the trick. :)
i have all white counter tops and for really stubborn stains i use dish washer detergent w/baking soda b/c it's more concentrated. let it sit on the stain for about 5 minutes and then wipe it off. haven't found a stain i can't remove w/that. hope this helps...
I use clorox cleanup on my white counters all the time for stains. Not sure about anything that's not white. Fantastic is also good for stains. I use the clorox when fantastic doesn't work.
Good Luck!
I live in an apartment too. The counter tops are always getting stains on them. I keep a spray bottle mixed with 3 parts water and one part bleach accessible for these instances. It works like a charm.
Clorox Clean Up or whatever it's called. It's a cleaner with bleach in it by Clorox.
Or there's Soft Scrub with bleach.
I would try a "magic eraser" type of wipe/pad. They look like palm-sized white rectangular sponges and come about 6 to a pack, and are remarkable. I believe most places carry them, even Aldi has a version. Good luck!
Try rubbing alcohol.
