I am pregnant with my 2nd child due in Aug 2008, i am 9 weeks 2 days and for the last couple of days i have noticed when i go to the bathroom there is some dark brown blood there only when i wipe. I called my doctor and he said not to worry about it unless it is red blood, and that this happens some in pregnancy and if im not cramping or it not bright not to worry but if it gets worse let him know. I didnt do this with my 1st pregnancy but i have talked to people and alot say they have done this with there 2nd and not there 1st. I think im just stressing because i didnt do this with the 1st you know. I did have a miscarrige back in Oct of 2006 at 4 weeks 1 day but after that we found out that i had poly cystic ovarian syndrome and we think that is what led to it. My doctor says i should have a normal and healthy pregnancy. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen.

What can I do next?

Listen to your doctor and don't stress out. If the blood turns red or bright red call. I worked in ob/gyn for five years and all I know it was the guideline they gave us to bring patients in. It could just be old blood lining that is just now passing since you didn't have a cycle.

with my 1st I had no bleeding at all. Not a drop. Just prior to getting pregnant with my 2nd I had a ruptured ovarian cyst. With my 2nd pregnancy I had some intermittant spotting throughout the 1st trimester. I think some of it had to do with I was older, it was the second time around, and I was more active than the first. I didn't have any other problems and was told the same thing by my OB as yours said. Don't worry, you have enough to worry about making sure your 3 year old isn't demoloshing everything in sight.

I am 39, have one child through fertility drugs. He is five yrs old now. A high-function autistic. I also have polycystic ovarian syndrome found out about 14 yrs ago when my periods just stopped (age 26). Now I am overweight and lots of problems. Am afraid to get pregnant again because I had twin boys due to the fertility drugs and they were born 25 weeks gestation (due to UTI, we think). Alex, my first born, also Down Syndrome died a month later after major surgery on his gut to remove the infection called NEC.
I would like to know more about you and your PCOS. Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones. Sincerely, Barbara - Biloxi, MS

I did this as well for the first few months of this pregnancy (my second). I worried a lot as well, as I had a miscarriage before my last daughter. I asked the doctor and he told me not to worry, but that is easier said than done. I am now at 29 weeks, no more spotting and a healthy baby according to the ultrasounds...so try not to worry just keep an eye on those things the doctor mentioned. Good luck!!!

I did this with my daughter. I miscarried twice before the successful pregnancy, so when I started spotting I completely freaked out. Your doctor is probably right -- as long as it isn't bright red (fresh) blood, it shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes you spot around the time when your period usually comes.

How are you feeling now?

J.,
I felt like I was reading my story when I read your blog. I have 2 children. My first was the perfect preg. Between my 2 children I was told I had polycystic ovarian syndrime. My 2nd child I spoted with up until about a month before I delivered. I was told the samething your doctor is telling you. I have a VERY healthy 110% little boy. I would say take it easy. Stay off your feet as much as you can. Let your family take care of you. That little girl will be glad to pamper mom I am sure. As hard as it is try not to get to worked up because that is not good for you or the baby. Good luck and please keep us posted. You are welcome to email me if you have ANY questions.

Hi J. i had a miscarriage after my second child and a year later i was pregnant again. I started spotting and i freaked out. My doctor said not to worry and just to ease my mind i was given a ultrasound everytime i came in. I loved that. It calmed me so much. I wasnt expecting to have another since i was 38 but god blessed me. My oldest is 20 and my youngest is 2. Dont worry and keep your faith and you will be fine. Good luck

I am pregnant with my 3rd child. I have had trouble with spotting dark brown around 6-8 weeks of each pregnancy. I have had regular, great pregnancies after 12 weeks for all three children. My dr. is very cautious and did put me on bedrest each time. In addition, I had to take Progesterone two-three times daily until 12 weeks. I know it is hard not to worry, but I have had great pregnancies with the spotting two times and hopefully a third!
