Hello,

I have a 2 1/2 year old son who is VERY active, and energetic and I thought it would be great to get him in like T-ball or or soccor or something of that sort. Does any of you know of any good sport teams or clubs that would be good for him. We are a Christian family, and if you know of any Christian based sports teams, that would be awesome!! Thanks so much!

I noticed that a couple people posted about the lil' kickers program but one was in Corvallis & one was in Portland. There is one here in Springfield at Kick City off of 28th & Olympic. Their website is www.kickcity.com & there is info on the site about the program. Good luck!

Hope you find something for your son. There are a lot of great programs out there to get youngsters started in sports and activities.

Take Care,

I would think a teams might be too old for your child, you should try a class of some sort. when my kids were that age I enrolled them in a tumbling class that our town offered, it sure worked and they used a lot of energy. Or if you have a health club, they might offer a swim class or if you were a member you can take your child during open swim time, this is a great energy burning activity. Hope this idea helps. God bless, S. D.

I started my twins with the YMCA. They did Soccer and T-Ball through the YMCA. The YMCA also has other programs for kids that helps them get energy burnt with kids their own age, and they do creative and artistic things in these classes.
Have fun and good luck.

It's really hard to find activities for boys that age! It seems like the earliest they can play ball is age 4 or 5. Have you thought about signing him up for gymnastics or swimming lessons? or maybe even bowling?

The local YMCA has a lot of different classes and beginning sports for kids your son's age. I would check with them.

Hi T. -

I don't know of any "teams" for kids that young, but we take my son to The Little Gym up on Huffman Road, and he LOVES it. They're great with kids, everyone seems to enjoy it, and they have different kinds of classes for even little kids (sports skills, gymmnastics, etc...)
At his age, you'll probably be involved in a "mommy & me" type class; at 3 he can be on his own.

You should definitely check it out - it's great!

I don't think there's any religious affiliation with this program, but a friend of mine just sent me this link for a soccer program for little ones.

We take our little 2.5 year old to Parks and Recreation where there is open play a couple times a week. You pay a small fee, they get to run around like toddlers for 2 hours. Also there are lots of fun community center classes for toddlers through our local Parks and Recreation.

Activities are great, but I don't think they have a public group until they are 3 or 4, but tumbling is good at that age, and there are all the martial arts. As long as you investigate the motivation of the instructor, and know they are teaching peacefully, instead of combative. Most Martial arts are taught to gain control of ones self, but there are some who teach it as a weapon. As Christians, we dont want that.
You might just do a search for a Play group that meets a couple of times a week.

Good luck,

I see that you are in Springfield, so this won't help specifically...but I take my 2 year old daughter to the Little Kickers program (soccer) in Corvallis. It is excellent. She gets exercise and gets to interact with kids her age. I bet there is a similar program down there! You should check and see.
Good Luck!

T.,

I'm not sure exactly where you are at (your profile shows Oregon). Here in Olympia our Parks and Recreation Department just set up a kids soccer program. You might want to look into what your city offers through your Parks and Rec Department. Good luck!!
