I am looking for some more creative ideas for my son's birthday party. He will be turning 7. I don't really want to use any characters. Maybe a R2D2 or C3PO balloon, but thats it. I am going low budget. But, we will be having about 30 kids, as we have to invite his class. So, consider yourselves challenged......

Thanks I appreciate your ideas,
Jess

We did a space them last year old for my 6 year old son.  I made a solar system cake that went over wonderfully--I baked cakes in different sized glass bowls-when you flip them out of the bowl, it makes a perfect half circle.  I set them out on a huge board which I had spray-painted black with some white spots scattered around (stars). Some colorful icing on the top of the planets.  The kids loved choosing which planet they wanted to eat.As for the party, we had Mad Science come out and do a program for all the boys (we also had almost 30 boys!)  It was an awesome program-lasted about an hour-and-a-half.  The boys had a wonderful time--I still hear about it almost 2 years later.  While not exactly a budget friendly activity, it was wonderful and my son loved it!  We used the party instead of a big gift from us.  He realized that this was his present from us and enjoyed it as much as any toy we could have bought him-plus, he got 30 gifts from all his friends, which was way more than any 6 year old should have.

If you have some time on your hands, you can read through this website. I found a lot of creative ideas on here when I was planning a circus party last year. It's a site where people write about what they did for their own parties, and they're organized by theme. I found it really helpful (although there's so much to read it can almost be a little overwhelming!) Good luck!

Have you tried oriental trading company? I love them and they have a clearance section and are cheap. They also have a two step testing system for lead free products and safety hazards. orientaltrading.com.

You can always get a huge box from a local store and paint and glow in the dark stars!! that will take the entire party. Cut a door and a windo and make it a rocket.
