South Carolina Residents--visit to Greenville

We are planning to spend two nights in Greenville, SC in March on our way to our spring break vacation. Our primary purpose is to visit a relative battling lung cancer and recently relocated to Greenville. We have two active boys, 12 and 15. Although we want to spend as much time as possible with this relative I realize that he will need rest and a break from our noise and activity and my boys will need to burn off some energy. Any ideas on things to do with our boys? We will probably stay in the Embassy Suites which has a golf course and an indoor pool. My older son and husband will probably try a little golfing with our relative if he feels up to it. I know there's a small zoo and a hiking trail with a waterfall. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Change in plans--the flights didn't work out to stop in Greenville on our way to our spring break destination. It's my husband's relative so he's going to try to visit next month and the rest of us will get there when we can on a separate trip. It was actually cheaper to do it as a separate trip than to tack it on to spring break. Once we do get there, I am intrigued by the BMW plant tour.

I lived in Gville for 3 years and absolutely LOVED it!!! It's very international (look for the fliers on the many things the International Center if the Upstate has planned for the time youìll be there - once was located in the City Hall downtown on Main Street), there are TONS of cute stores and super yummy restaurants, they have a carriage to stroll around the downtown area, there's a mall with season-related attractions, play areas (inflatables, go-karts etc..) for children (one is off Woodruff road, can't remember the name), there's the Reedy River Park with waterfalls you can play in (In Summer) and yes, the tour of the BMW plant is fun, so is the zoo. I think there's plenty to do for just a couple of days!!! I love, love, love Greenville SC!

I disagree! My parents live in Greenville and I like it! I think the zoo is nice. Your boys might be a little young for it though, but not a bad choice. They have nice parks there. My boys are younger than your, so our choices are different, but I'm sure that there are things there!

To answer your main question, Greenville is an old empty town. There isn't a lot to do there... However... about an hour and a half north is the Vanderbilt Mansion in Asheville NC, which is beautiful. Definitely worth the trip.
