Warm honey and whiskey mixed together. It's soothing and it will help him rest.
I hope he feels better soon.
My poor hubby has a terrible sore throat, he hasnt been able to eat anything but chicken noodle soup for 5 days. He went to the emergency room on soaturday night and they said that his throat was full of puss, so they put him on amoxicillin for 10 days. it seems like his throat isnt feeling that much better, poor thing is in tears everytime he swallows.
we have been doing the soup and warm tea. also i know about the salt water, but it burns to bad.
are there any home remedies that really help???
thanks and god bless

If it's still like this after Wednesday, he needs a new antibiotic.
Mix him some apple vinegar cut with a little water, and have him gargle. Yes, it's nasty tasting. It might hurt some. Certainly it won't hurt as much as salt.
The reason to use the vinegar (tell him this) is that when his throat is sore, the pH level has become very acidic. The chemical makeup of the vinegar is basic. So by gargling with the vinegar, it will help cut the acid in his throat. That will help it feel a lot better.
I did a lot of this when I was singing, as well as when I was sick.
I am so sorry that he is so sick.
Dawn
So sorry he is in such pain!!
When I was little, my mom doused a washcloth with Vicks rub after folding into a triangle, then pinning it around my neck for the night. I'm with some of the other gals and also because I just got over a severe nonstrep sore throat....send him back for a z pack!!!
He needs to go back to the doc.
Take a soft piece of cloth, soak it in warm water, pin it inside of a wool sock, and then wrap the wool sock around his neck and pin it snugly (but not TOO tight!) in place overnight. One or two nights in a row will usually take care of a "basic" sore throat. However, I would be concerned that the puss is indicative of something more serious. If the antibiotics aren't working yet, I would take him back to a doctor.
Regular or peppermint tea with honey and lemon. The soup has a lot of salt, so it's probably just as good as the salt water. Tylenol or ibuprofen generally reduce swelling and pain.
If you go back to the doctor, you could ask about pain-relief throat sprays.
If he is not getting better, he needs to go back to the Doctor for a follow-up. And/or, be put on another family of antibiotics.
Did they do a Strep test?
A spoonful of honey. Google honey for sore throat and you will see a lot comes up.
Hmm. This may or may not help - but when I feel a sore throat coming on, I take a ZINC supplement (cheap small white vitamin at grocery store). Next day my sore throat is often completely gone.
Sounds like if the salt-water is burning too bad, then he should go back to doc.
