My 14 month old has developed and very bad rash in a very short amount of time. It is not in the diaper area but on both his inner thighs. He had not even the sligthest sign of anything till it appeared out of nowhere at his 3pm diaper change at daycare. It really looks almost like a burn more than a rash but he was not in any situation where he would get a burn (I trust my daycare fully). The only thing I can think of would be a food allergy but up to this point we dont know of any. Has anyone else experienced this and figured out what caused it?

I forgot to mention he was changed right before eating lunch and goes down for a nap immediatly following lunch. He woke up from nap with the rash so he had not bee walking around or anything when it showed up.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We went to the pedi yesterday afternoon and it turns out it was the diapers we were using. We have been using huggies and they have had a lot of kids coming in with rashes caused by them. Our dr seems to believe that they have changed something in the way they are making them (the deoderant used or something) that is causing this. We changed my son to pampers last night and the rash already looks 10 times better. Thanks for your advise

don't fool around with a rash. Strept throat can also present itself with a rash. Let the doctor take a look.

Could it be his thighes rubbing together while walking / crawling ? Especially if he has jeans or other pants on ? I thought food allergies usually (not always though) showed up first on stomach, back, face ?

Are there any bumps? If so, it could be a yeast infection (yes, boys can get them, too) and you'll need to see your pediatrician. Good luck!

Dear K.P.

Most likely this is a rash from the diaper or the urine if it leaked out. The other choices is baby powders or creams. Whatever the cause may be the solution could be simple.

Take some baking soda and dilute it with water. 50/50

Apply a moist papertowel of this liquid to the area 3 times a day for 5 minutes..

The problem should be gone in 1 to 3 days. If for some reason it does not leave peacefully then there is a cream that does not fail.

It is called SulfaDerm: It has received a 5 star rating on Amazon .com and you may be able to get it at http://www.healingedge.net/store/product1.html

Good Luck

I would think either clothes rubbing or maybe allergy to laundry detergent. does he play in any type of toy or seat that would rub?
