Good morning. I had my tubes tied after my 5th child. For me the recovery time was quicker and better than having it done after being home for a while. Good luck.
I am scheduled for c-section on the 5th of March. This is our third child and are done completing our family. I talked to my Dr. about tieing my tubes at the sametime as having my c-section so it's all done at once and over with. Is there anyone else who did it this way that could tell me if it was a breeze or did it make the recovery time worse? Thanks

Recovery time is the same with C-section and tubal ligation. It is great to have it all done at the same time! I did it myself. Good luck!
Hi, D.. After our son was born via C-section in 2007, I had my tubes tied at the same time. It was quick and easy and I don't feel it added any difficulty to my recovery time at all.
Good luck and congratulations on your third!
Had my tubes tied during my second c-section, my only wish was that I had the hysterectemy. Why have a monthly cycle if you are not going to have babies??? I wish I thought it thru longer and made that change.
Other than that, it made no difference in my recovery.
I also had my tubes tied when I had my c-section. I don't think it made the recovery time are harder or longer. I was up and moving around before I even left the hospital. I was uncomfortable but nothing too serious and I know that was because of the incision. I think it is the best way to do it, since you are already going to be cut open, why bother having another surgery down the line when you can do it all at once.
When I was having an emergency C-section with my 2nd daughter I had my tubes tied. My first daughter was also a C-section (breech) and there was no noticeable difference. It seems to be the sensible way to have it done since they already have you open. You won't even know its been done in my experience.

Hi D.
If this is something you are set on doing, the time of the C-Section is the time to do it. Its easy. Your tubes are exposed to the doctor at the point. Its actually dangerous to wait and do it later. When you have not just given birth, you tubes are "buried". The docs have to go in with two blind incisions (until camera is in) and then tie them. I know someone who works in an outpatient facility that saw someone die from the procedure 4 months after birth. When the doc went in, he nicked an artery and a small vein. They could not stop the bleeding. Its explained in the risks, but ppl don't think it happens, it does.
Recap: Safe to do it during a C-Sect, riskier to wait and do it later
I would say that it added NO additional pain to my recovery
I am a Labor & Delivery nurse and I highly recommend that if you are planning on having your tubes tied, do it at the SAME TIME as your C-Section:). It does not worsen or prolong your recovery time in any way. I am in the operating room during C/S's all the time and can see that it is so much easier for the Dr's to just do it right there. All they do is just bend your tubes, put a suture around the "curl" and then cut that top part of the curl off. It takes literally a few minutes, that is it. Your uterus is a nice size right after birth, so that alone makes it a cinch. If you decided to wait 6 weeks post-partum, that would require going back into the hospital, going under general anesthesia (risks involved there), and more uncomfortable recovery for even longer on top of your C/S recovery. Plus, I would think it would be hard to be out of commision even longer with a new baby at home. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me:). Good luck and maybe I will see you on March 5th if you deliver at UCH:).
Yes, I had it done in Dec. 2004. The recovery isn't any different than recovery from the C-section itself. Nothing to worry yourself crazy about. My C-section in 2004 was the only one where I was awake through the whole thing and I had myself all worked up over it. And it went over without a hitch!!!!I have had 4 children. My 1st C-section was in 1990 and the 2 babies in the middle were born VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). My heart goes out to you. Everything will be alright. Take care & God Bless!!!!!
C-sections aren't always necessary. Lots of doctors do them because it means more money for them. They don't have to get called in at a weird hour and can pick the day and time to deliver. My neice had a c-section for her first two and was scheduled to have another for the last one. She went into premature labor and had her baby girl with no problems. She said it was a lot better then the c-section. I would get a second opinion before getting one. If you have the baby natural you have a little pain during labor, a little for a few days after and thats it. With a c-section you are laid up for about six weeks. Natural is always better. I had my daughters natural, had my tubes done the morning after the last one was born. No problems. Had very little pain for just a few days.
I also had my tubes tied with my c-section last July. My first pregnancy was a vaginal delivery so I don't have any previous c-section experience, but I was up and going in a couple of weeks. Which I hear is the normal time anyway. I think the only difference is that you are in surgery a little longer. I wouldn't say I have regrets as we now have 4 kids, but I wonder sometimes if I'm going to want another baby down the line. I don't know if I think about it because I know I can't now or if I would really want another. Who knows?? Hope this helps :)
D.,
I had 2 c-sections myself. I had my tubes tied along with the second c-section. The recovery time was no different than with the first. I expected maybe a little more difficulty since it was my second c-section, tubes tied, etc. but didn't feel any different. I also figured "might as well" to avoid more than one surgery, especially since I knew our family was complete and I'd now have a newborn and a 2-year old to take care of. It was "one stop shopping" for me! No regrets.
Good luck!
First off - congratulations on your newest bundle of joy!
I had a c-section and bilaterial tubal ligation in July 2003 at UCH. My daughter was born on Wednesday, July 30th and I went home at 5 pm the next day (Thursday). I was at Publix shopping for the grand opening of the new store at Collier Commons in Land O Lakes and made it through each aisle. I didn't push the cart - :) - but I did walk. I had lots of gas (I know, TMI) but walking helped me alleviate the buildup. That was the only thing different from the other c-section I noticed.
I took 800 mg of ibuproferen for the first 5 days 2x a day and that was it. I didn't notice anything significant aside from the gas.
Good luck! S.
