Sock Battles -- Help!!

This is going to sound wacky, but I'm going crazy with the daily sock battles with my daughter! She's always been sensitive to clothing seams, etc. and is very picky about her clothing and anything that is remotely uncomfortable to her. Which is fine. But lately it's been the sock seam that goes over the top of your toes. It drives her nuts when she has shoes on. Doesn't matter if the sock is inside out or not, the seam bothers her when shoes are on. ANY type of shoes, any type of socks. I'm at my wit's end in winter time. So, any known sock brands out there with no seams on the toes?? Thanks so much, ladies!

So What Happened?

Thanks for your responses!! She's definitely not autistic, and I do know that tactile issues go along w/ that. Just a super sensitive kid :) I've actually taken the first poster's advice and purchased seamless socks -- never knew those existed so that's going to be a great solution for us. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond!!

Have you tried toe socks? Also, some tube socks don't have the seam. My girl was like this for awhile, too. another thing to try is the short socks that fit below the rim of the shoe: sometimes they are seam-free. good luck!

You probably going to hate my message, and I know it is very odd to jump on stranger who is just asking for some socks with medical gloom, so if you don’t want to know it, delete this message and do not read any further.

Clothing and seams sensitivity may be the sign of mild autism. It is not the end of the world and with your healthy and caring lifestyle it may never become more than a little quirk here and there, but if you understand the head and tail of the issue, you may make different choices in things other than socks – I started treating my totally normal to the “outside world” now 12 y.o. very differently, just FYI.
Good Luck

There is a new site that just opened up yesterday. I have been following their progress for the past year. It is a site with clothes for autistic kids or those with sensory issues. The site is: softclothing.net. Not only kids with special needs can order from here, but everyone can. I sure hope this helps.

I had to giggle at this! My 4 year old is the same way I could have written this myself i have yet to find a solution other than picking my battle with her and let her not wear socks when she fights me it won't hurt her but I'm letting her make the choice

My little girl has the same issue. What fixed it for us was me hand knitting her socks. I am not sure it was because it was made by mommy just for her or or the fact that it wasn't a sewn seam but a knitted one but never a complaint about those socks.

Nordstrom sells them, in the kid's shoe department. I'm glad you already found some though.

HA! I thought my crazy kid was the only one!! I wish I had some brilliant ideas for you, eventually she got over it, but for a year of preschool every day was a battle! I told her she had to wear her socks and shoes for 10 minutes and if they still bugged her, we'd change them. 9 times out of 10, she's start to play and forget all about it. At least she's not like my neighbor's daughter who refused to wear underwear because she didn't like the elastic around her legs...
Good Luck.

I hope you found an answer to this, but I had to drop a note because I still HATE most socks!

If the seamless toes didn't work, it's possible that the socks just don't fit well. I am a fan of Smart Wool socks now - they come in a variety of sizes and fit well. Anything else is SUPREMEMLY uncomfortable.

What about tights instead of socks? Or Ugg like boots with a warm lining that she does not have to wear socks?
Good luck.

My oldest had the same problem, I found the socks at Gymboree worked for her, but were a little on the pricey side.

The no nonsense brand sold at walmart has the seams go across the top of the foot right under the base of the toes. So when they are worn you can't even feel the seam.

Here is a site that I recommend. Just what you need.

Good luck with that. I know exactly how that can be.
