My 5yr old son wants to play soccer this Summer for the first time. I know many of the other children have been playing since they were 3 or 4 and will be ahead of him.

Would people in the Mckinney area recommend him playing with Mckinney Soccer Association or though the YMCA program?

Thanks for the help ladies!

I would recommend the McKinney Soccer Association. Both my girls really enjoyed playing with them. The older one quit when she was in high school because she was on the swim team. The younger one unfortunately had to quit due to sunscreen allergies which keep her from playing outdoor sports at the moment. Both girls loved playing through the Association. My older daughter even ref'd for them for several years.

I've played for 30 years and coached for about 10. McKinney Soccer Association is GREAT! They do such a great job overseeing everything, thoroughly background screening & helping to develop a passion for the sport no matter what the child's ability.

McKinney Soccer Association is a great place to start your son in soccer! My daughter started at age 5 too (the second half of her Kindergarten year). At that age it doesn't really matter if some of the kids on the team may have already been playing for a year . . . my daughter caught on fairly quickly. She's almost 12 now and still plays, although now she's been playing on a competitive team for over a year now, but the MSA recreational soccer was a perfect start for her. http://mckinneysoccer.org/default.aspx

We live in McKinney and did soccer for the first time through the McKinney Y in the spring of 2010 with our son. It was okay, but a bit disorganized. The following season, the McKinney Soccer Association didn't exist yet, so we signed up with the Frisco Soccer Association. This is our second season with them and we are pleased with the outdoor soccer organization. The indoor (FSA goes through the Fieldhouse at that point) is a complete mess, though, just FYI. HTH!
