Pretty much any blender works for making smoothies, find one that has a couple different speeds, but not a bunch of setting like "ice" or "fruit" and just smoothie away :) yumm
I know this has been asked many times and I looked through mamapedia post history. I still feel confused!
I really want to get a machine to make smoothies and I am just not sure which one to buy.
Would you please let me know which smoothie maker really works for you?
Thank you sooo much!
I used my blender and it worked great! Thank you for the great advice!

I have the ninja blender. You have to have a good blender in order to make a good smoothie. I purchased a smoothie maker that did not work.
The Ninja or Vitamix blender are the best.
We have a regular blender and it works just fine for making smoothies.
I am pretty sure a smoothie is defined by the ingredients...not the machine used to make it.
Blender - more versatile and you can use it for other things, from making gazpacho to frozen drinks to crushing ice to making breadcrumbs. You can get a decent one with about 16 speeds for $20. Don't get something just for smoothies - waste of money.
We have a vitamix. They are expensive but they make everything! Fortunately ours was a hand me down, but I would pay if I had too. You can use them as a blender, food processor, etc.
My girls make smoothies EVERY day with our cheap, loud and very old Oster blender.
You don't need a "special" machine :)
I always just use a regular blender. It makes great smoothies and can be used for other things too.
Smoothie makers are a waste of money and just another large gadget to store.
I love my immersion blender. I use it to make smoothies for my kids in the morning. It is quick and easy to use and clean up is quick and easy.
Use a blender....works like a charm.
I just use a regular blender, works just fine.
I have a Torpedo Multipurpose Appliance--less expensive than a Vitamix. It will pulverize anything. So it is good if you want to add seeds. But the others are right-- a regular blender works just fine to make smoothies. And it is much easier to clean because it comes apart.
