Should I Get a Sit and Stand Stroller for 4.5 Year Old and Baby?

I have a newborn and a 4.5 year old. I am thinking of getting a sit and stand for the long walks we like to take when the weather gets nice, or for when we go somewhere she will get tired of walking the whole time. Has anyone used a sit and stand for this age or is that too old? Is there a weight/height limit? are the for younger kids or do you think they will work for a 4.5 year old? Any suggestions on which kind would work best for this older child? I need one that would work with the carseat and still have room for my older kid to stand.

thanks!

What can I do next?

No, not worth it with a 4 1/2 year age difference. You can wear the younger one in a carrier the few times the older one is too tired to walk and needs to ride in a stroller. If you're worried about her getting tired on long walks, maybe you can have her ride her bike/trike. My two are 3 1/2 years apart. The only time I really needed a double stroller was when we went to Disneyland, and I was able to borrow one then.

Last August, I had a newborn and a 4.5 year old. I didn't get a sit and stand. I like to use a sling or a Bjorn for newborns (so that I have my hands free) and my 4.5 year old would either walk or ride his bike. Sometimes, I pull him in a wagon. We take pretty long walks to various parks around our house and I've not had a problem so far. He just turned 5 and wouldn't dream of going in a stroller now - that is for babies! My 6 month old is out of the Bjorn but I still carry him in a Mai Tai or pop him in the Graco. Until recently I used the car seat with the Graco but we've gotten too tall for the infant car seat so now we are just using the Graco alone. I've taught the 5 year old to hold on to the side of the stroller if we are in a busy environment (airport, mall, etc) - but if he wasn't good at that, I would have him wear a harness and hold onto that as well.

Save the $$$. Make your 4.5 year old the "big sibling / big helper". Mine got diapers for me, sang to the baby, found pacifiers, got burp clothes, wipes, etc. Now my 6 month old is sitting and they actually play together! It is great!

Good luck! C.

No way...total waste of money. Chances of your soon to be 5 year old staying on the there are slim. And they are bulky & hard to move around. I borrowed one to try it out before we bought one. Soooooo glad I did, couldn't wait to give it back and I saved myself the money by never buying one.

I wouldn't bother, either. My five year old was always on her feet for walks...and it's good for them. Also, my neighbor has one for her toddler and five year old boy...and it's just a waste. On a walk, if he gets "tired" he'll sit for about a minute, and then hop back up. I think it's just teaching them to cop out when they feel like it...instead of being tough and making it through a walk. :)

I have one. My boys are 2 and 4. I got mine last year and only used it for about 5 months. I dont think the 4 year old will take much interest in it. Besides, the area to sit/stand is really tight.

We have one -- because my kids were 17 mos apart when the 2nd was born. My daughter honestly would rather walk -- or ride her bike on the sidewalk alongside the stroller. She will be 4 in July. Unless your older one really HATES to walk and gets tired easily, I wouldn't waste the money. Check out the size/weight restrictions -- it depends on the size of your older kiddo.

I wouldn't bother. Your 4.5 year old will want to walk. My three year old just gave up his stroller, pretty much. Instead try getting a bike with training wheels for the older one.

Have fun with two!

We decided to not get a sit and stand when our 2nd was born. Our oldest was almost 3 and we went with two umbrella strollers and a really good ERGO Baby Carrier. My then 3 year old didnt like to sit int he stroller and walked with me very well. If we went somewhere like the mall I popped the baby in the carrier and my oldest on the umbrella stroller.Sounds like it would a waste of money on your case also.

Well when we had a sit/stand stroller we loved it. Would your daughter go or stay in the stroller. My youngest is the age 4 1/2 yrs. She detest strollers. Has not used one for 2 yrs. However both of my boys would of stayed in the stroller until they were 6 if I would of let them.

They are hard to push, especially if your older one is in there. I have one for my first two who are 18 months apart. Now I will soon have a newborn, a two year old, and my oldest will be 4 in a couple of months. For walks my oldest likes to ride his bike, and he usually walks everywhere, if he tells me he is tired I'll say should we take a rest or maybe we should head home, he usually says no way. My almost 2.5 year old is starting to not want to sit in a stroller either or they'll take turns sitting in the stroller. I have three double strollers that I rarely use because most the time I am stuck pushing those big things around with no kid sitting in it. I would just get a good baby carrier that way if your older does in a break, you can wear the baby and have an easier to push strollers. I like my Maclaren.

there is a height/weight limit, so look for that. I got one for long zoo trips for my 5 yr old. I know he will only use it once in awhile for a rest, but I got it at an consignment sale for 13 bucks.. so i don't mind

Yes! My son is almost 5 & fits perfectly on the sit & stand (sitting or standing obviously...my 2 year old is in the front). You should check & see if your infant carrier will fit on it, I think only certain models do.

My son does get out & walk sometimes, but likes to be able to sit too if he gets tired.

My son is 5 and he loves the stroller. He is small for his age, so I don't have to worry about the weight/height limit as others might. Anyways, he will sit for a bit and talk to us, he doesn't use it to stand on very often though. For us it works and we love it. It does take up a lot of room in the back of the car though. Another thought that might needsconsidered.

I bought a sit and stand for my 3.5 year old and infant from Craigslist - so much cheaper! We've used it a few times, but the darn thing is HARD to push with such a big kid in the back! Usually, I use a light single stroller for my now 10 month old and the 3.5 year old walks! I wouldn't say that it was worth the money I spent on it. :) Good luck w/your decision!

It will be hard to push!! Yes, there is a weight limit-I just forgot exactly how much. I wouldn't lug that thing around for a 4.5 yo. What about a scooter? Maybe go to Babies R Us and test drive one.

Good luck.
