Try folding it up and see how it works. even though my kids are 4 years apart, I got a double stroller when I had my second and I loved it.
Hi,
I have a 3 yr old son who's turning 4 soon. I'm expecting a baby in November and I've been thinking about purchasing a Sit N Stand type stroller. Has anyone used it and how do you like it? I think it's a neat product, but I hear that it's much bigger than a single stroller and harder to manouver. My son seems to want to ride on it right now, but I don't even know if he would sit in it once we own it. A friend of mine said she preferred to just carry the baby and let the older one sit in the stroller when the older one needed to sit. I'm a bit worried that if it's bulky, I'd be reluctant to get it in and out of the car, too. Any advise?
Thanks

Hello! I too have a Sit-N-Stand and I love it so far. I have a 1 month old and a 3 year old and I love the fact that my toddler can change positions easily!!!! Maybe she wants to walk, and a minute later, sit and a minute later stand!!!!!...so I love having all those options. I don't think it is that big either. I think I'd rather have a longer stroller than a wider one. I find this stroller easy to maneuver and I hope we will use for a few years. I also like the low price compare to other double strollers.
Good luck!
I absolutely love mine. My boys are only 12 months apart, so it's extremely crucial to have a double. It's really lightweight and folds up smaller than my stroller that I got with the infant carrier. It is really easy to get in and out of the car. At first it was kind of hard to turn it, but that's just because I was so used to a tiny umbrella stroller. If you will use it a lot I would say definitely buy one. They are cheaper than most double strollers and your oldest would benefit from it then I would say yes. If you know anyone that has one, test it out!
I bought a sit-n-stand when my older son was 2 and younger son was born. It was GREAT for a couple years. When they got to be about 2 and 4, it was too heavy to push them both. Now I usually take a single stroller, and they sometimes take turns riding in it. With the older child already 4, I'm not sure how useful it would be for you.
I have the Joovy sit and stand stroller and I love it! It is only slightly larger than a single, but nearly as big as a double. I have three kids and had a double stroller for the first 2 since they were closer together in age, but when my third arrived I needed something more manageable and when I saw someone in the mall with it I ran out and got it. It adapts to fit a baby carrier and is really easy to use. I highly recommend it.
We have the Sit 'n' Stand stroller. It is a little big, but we really like it. I use it for walks around our neighborhood. My kids are 4 and almost 2, so my 4 year old likes that she can get out when she wants to pick flowers or walk awhile and then get right back in easily. We got it when my son was born, and I liked that it can hold an infant seat as well. It folds quickly and fits just fine in the back of the car (we have a Subaru wagon).
We have a sit and stand stroller and I love it. We now only use it when we are going to be walking long distances that my little guy(4) can't do. It was great because my little guy did not feel left out. Also now I think they all come with cup holders, my did not and that was very sad. It also made him easier to keep track of so he did not run off as much. I have a friend who did not get one and when I ask her what I needed she told me to get one because it would make life so much easier. Good luck .
My kids are 25 months apart. I first got a regular double stroller. It was so bulky, I could barely get it in and out of the car by myself. I debated a lot about what to do. I finally got smart and ditched that for a Joovy Caboose (original, not the lightweight). I love it. I can get it in and out of my car w/o problems. My daughter is now 21 months and my son is almost 4. He will sit/stand on the back of it and likes having a little seat to himself w/a little more freedom. Last summer we went to Las Vegas, and took that with us everywhere we went on the strip. It worked really well. It seems like it's a quality product and has stood up to a lot of beatings. My only complaint is that it's hard for me to get the tray off of the front seat- but it could be just me. It turns well, better than regular double strollers and we still take it to he zoo, part, etc. Good luck!
Hi,
Have you thought about just getting a buggyboard for your single stroller? I got that for my now almost 5 year old 2 years ago and it works fine. It attaches to the single stroller so that the older child stands in front of you, which my son loves. It's much cheaper than buying a new stroller and I thought that a (than) 3 year old should not be in a regular stroller anymore anyway... We walk a lot and longer distances and he has learned to keep up nicely, just taking a rest occasionally on his buggyboard.
Here is a link for the one we have , a google search will show you more. I have even seen one that has a seat.

Good luck!
I LOOOOOOOVE my sit and stand stroller. It is so great for all different ages. I have twins that are 5 and a two year old. When the baby was tiny the car seat actually snapped onto the front just like a nice single stroller and one if not both of the girls could ride on the back. One could sit and one could stand or they both could stand on the back. There are handles and a strap you can close to give them support if they want to lean back. We took it to Lagoon and it held our cooler and there was a place for our two year old up front. You cannot always count on holding the baby depending on how long you will be somewhere. It can become exhausting. This stroller can be used soooo many ways. It is slightly bigger than a single stroller, but it is much smaller than the Graco Duo Glider I had when the twins were born. It folds down nicely. The one I have is made by Baby Trend and I purchased it at Target cheaper than I could have online.
We have a SnS, and we like it... sometimes. I, too, am reluctant to get it out for quick trips, and I have the smaller version. Most of the time, I put our baby (now 15 months!) into a sling and take the single, or put the baby into the single stroller and let our older daughter walk. However, I do like our double when we are going to be walking for a while. I like it at the park, the zoo, and the local petting farm. We also use it at the mall when we have to do a lot of shopping. There are two versions of the SnS made by Baby Trends, and there is a similar stroller made by Joovy.
Some things to consider about the SnS...
1. Your older child needs to be old enough to sit on their own comfortably, or to stand for a while. This isn't an issue for you, but I have read reviews from parents with older kids who were 15-18 months, and they HATED the SnS.
2. Do you want your older child to be free to get out? If your older one tends to run like mad in stores, be aware that the SnS won't really corral him/her. It has a waist belt, but I think that's more for support than for control.
3. Is your older child still likely to want to nap in the stroller? He can't with the SnS.
4. On the smaller model, if the baby seat is laid back for baby to nap, the older child's seat is blocked. My oldest just stands when this happens, but it is something to keep in mind.
5. The basket isn't that great. It's hard to access when the baby's seat is laid back, though it does have some side-access. I would say you can get to something small like a sippy cup, but you couldn't pull out your diaper bag.
6. Make sure the model you buy is compatible with a baby seat, if you are planning on using one. I have one that doesn't take a car seat.
7. It is kind of hard to maneuver. It is significantly easier to maneuver than a standard back-to-back double stroller, but definitely not as easy as a good single. If you are planning on lots of long walks, I would see about a side-by-side double or a double jogging stroller.
8. There are several models of the SnS. Joovy makes a similar stroller that is much shorter from front to back. It's easier to manuever and get into your car, but the tradeoff is that there is no way to lay back the front seat and still have your toddler be able to sit down. My oldest is 3-1/2, so on the rare occasion when the baby sleeps, my tot just stands or walks.
9. There is a super deluxe model that can translate into a standard double (with two seats) or a SnS style stroller. I think it might even take two infant carriers, but I'm not sure.
Here is the Baby Trend website if you want to check out the different models: http://tinyurl.com/6kus9t

My best recommendation is to get on Target.com or Amazon.com and look up the stroller models you are interested in. Both of these websites allow parents to comment on their purchase, and I think that is the best way to get a good handle on what people do and don't like about their purchases. My best advice is still to get a good quality sling, not a Bjorn type, but a wrap, ring sling, pouch or mei tai. We use our slings pretty much every day, and it is often easier to use a sling and a good single stroller than any double stroller on the market.
Best of luck,
S.
I had a sit n stand stroller and loved it, but with my kids, by the time they were four, they didn't want to ride in a stroller any more, so I dont know that the older one would use it. You'd have to think about whether your 4 year old still uses a stroller and how much longer he is likely to.
I have a Sit N Stand. I bought it when my older son was 2 and I had just had my second son. I used it for about a year and then they were too heavy to be able to maneuver easily. By the time my older son was three he didn't really want to ride in it anymore anyway. It is bigger and heavier than a regular single stroller but it's not bad. If you need a double stroller I would really suggest a double jogging stroller - even if you don't jog. I don't, but it's so much easier to get around b/c of the really big wheels. Make sure you get one with a swivel front wheel, it makes it even easier to drive. Good Luck.
I have and love my Baby Trend Sit and Stand stroller! I have gone through a few double strollers (one of them by Cosco and the other Graco) which were both too large, or impossible to manuever.
My dd's are 4 and 2. They both love it and love being able to sit or stand. It is almost always the 2 year old that sits because the 4 year old needs to run off her energy! I will be having a new dd in 2 months and she will lock into the front while the older two sit on the back seat and stand on the foot rest. It is an awesome stroller. I think it is great for the ages you have. Even though your son maybe *should* walk everywhere, we know that doesn't always happen. I find it nice to have the option of letting them stand on the back until they have more energy to get out and walk again.
It actually seems lighter (although a tiny bit longer) than my Graco single stroller.
Good luck!
I loved our sit and stand. I have a smaller car and I was able to fold it and fit it in the trunk. We had to try all the strollers in our trunk to see if they would fit before buying any of them, and I was able to fit a sit and stand in my trunk. I purchased one when my second was born 3 years ago and my first son was 3. My stroller has a lap buckle and a stand buckle, for the stand part, and my 3 year old(now almost 6)loves to be in there. It was a life saver for me to be able to get out and shop when needed, go to the zoo, etc...I was able to move the stroller with no problems. I have worn ours out with both of my boys. It is smaller then a double stroller, and it gives the older child the freedom and feel of a big boy, and yet the help a Mom who needs to keep her hands free from carrying a child all the time. Big boys get tired too and I wouldn't have the strength to carry him around when he was tired. I loved mine. -About me-SAHM with 2 boys 3& almost6, work weekends to keep my little dudes home. Good luck!
I purchased the Sit N Stand LX stroller from Wal-Mart - I have a now 6-month old and a 3 year old. We love it! I thought my 3-year old son would get bored with it, but really enjoys it. It is quite large - while it does fold up, it's probably twice as heavy as my lightweight single stroller. But in any case, I'd certainly recommend it. I find it fairly easy to maneuver, despite some of the reviews I read. And you can use either the snap-in car seat for infants, or a tray for bigger babies that is more like a traditional stroller. (And when the tray is on vs. the car seat, the stroller seems SIGNIFICANTLY smaller!) Good luck!
I am in the same situation; my daughter will be 3 1/2, when our next baby comes around Thanksgiving. We haven't been using a stroller for a while now because my daughter is really tall and out-grew it. She does fine with walking and we have started to establish some rules about when she MUST hold our hands. I am going to also start not allowing her to sit in the cart at the grocery and make her hold on to the cart so she gets used to that as well. I usually have one thing in the cart that she really wants and if she doesn't do what she is supposed to, it goes back. I don't want to have to purchase additional baby gear.
Congratulations on your growing family!
After much research and reading lots of consumer reviews, we purchased a Sit n' Stand stroller last summer after our second child was born. Overall we really like it - the stroller folds down nicely and still fits into the trunks of both of our cars. The stroller is well built in terms of the materials used and the quality is really good, but do be aware that these strollers are much harder to manuever than most single strollers. Because of the stroller length (and shorter wheel base according to my husband), you really have to manhandle the stroller at times - especially if the street, path or sidewalk slopes at all. If it's a flat, even surface it's not hard to push; only if there's a slope and then it tends to drift to the side. Also the basket on these strollers is under the seats, small and hard to access, so think about that too. There are definitely a few "cons" to consider along with the "pros" of this handy stroller design!
Your son at 4 should be old enough to walk with you, even if you have to get a toddler leash, hee hee.
I wouldn't spend the money on a sit and stand. If your son at four will still sit and isn't too big to be in a stroller, go to a garage sale and get a double stroller. Those were a life saver as my daughter was three when my son was born, I could put the baby infant carrier in the back part, then when my son was old enough to sit up they both had seats, storage underneath. A child isn't going to want to stand long, I suggest teaching the oldest how to walk with you, not burden yourself with carrying either child. The Graco double stroller looks bulky but I could get it out one handed and open it, it folds up. I used it until my daughter was 4 1/2 and my son was a year and a half old, then my daughter just walked and we used a simple umbrella stroller until my son was two, then both just walked with me. The double stroller comes in handy big time with visits to the zoo or shopping. Especially with the cup holders and extra storage underneath.
My daughter was born when my son was 26 months old. The Joovy double stroller has been wonderful. My daughter will be 2 in Dec, and we still are using it.
The baby carrier can be attached, and when the baby is big enough, he/she can sit in it. Check it out.
Babies R Us has one, but better colors and prices are available online.
Good Luck.
When I had my now 2 year old I looked into one. I didn't find any safety ratings on them and went to a speciality store who said they wouldn't carry them because they were having problems sending them back to the manufacturer when a customer had issues with one. So I got tandum by Greco. My then 2 year old used it very little. Always wants to walk. She is now 4 and hardly wants to ride. Always want to walk. So now I rarly use a stroller at all. But I am having a boy in OCtober and will probably use the tandum again. Only to keep track of the 2 year old not the 4 year old. I think any double stroller unless those unbrella ones will be bulky and hard to get out of the car. Good luck.
I bought a sit n stand just before I had my second. My older child was 2 so I needed a double stroller but knew I would need and want a sit stand pretty soon. I found a great double stroller that converts to a double with the sit n stand and it also was compatible with my carrier. You can find it at onestepahead.com. If you decide to purchas this stroller make sure you look for a coupon code. I love my and my girls love it to and it actually folds up pretty tight. I like the way it folds also so that I can still roll it on it's wheels.
I LOVE my sit and stroller. I got ours with a newborn and a four year old. It works great, it held the baby's carrier and then converted into a regular seat as she has grown while my older one is sitting or standing in the back. I don't have to hold my baby while shopping at the mall and my older one never complains about having to walk or getting tired. It is sometimes a little tough to push when on gravel when both kids are on it, but it is definately worth it. I am really glad I bought it. It folds up easily and it is not bigger than a regular stroller system. It is lighter also. I met one other person who has one and she has 3 kids and has always been glad she purchased her stroller as well.
